PORTLAND – A pair of 56-point halves helped lead Eastern Oregon University Men's Basketball past Multnomah Friday night as the Mountaineers secured a 112-72 win over the Lions on their home court. With the win, EOU improves to 3-2 on the year.
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers shot a season high 61.6% from the floor on 45-73 made shots and nailed 13 three pointers on 34 attempts for 38.2%. They Held the Lions (0-12) to just 37.7% overall on 29-77 shooting and gave up just nine triples and held them to 20.5% from deep (9-44).
• Early made shots and quick tempo was key in the beginning for EOU as the team jumped out to a 20-6 lead in the first five minutes of action.
Max McCullough had his rhythm going early as he accounted for 11 of the Mounties' 20 points to help them grab the early 14-point lead.
• The Lions put together a quick scoring surge midway through the first half and managed to cut the Mountaineers lead to six, 25-19, with 12:42 to play until halftime. EOU responded going on a 12-1 run over the next four minutes to push the lead back to double figures at 28-20.
• The Mountaineers eventually pushed the lead to 24 points, which was their largest of the first half. The strong offensive showing was crucial as EOU led Multnomah by 20, 56-36 going into the break. As a unit, the Mounties shot 57.89% in the first half, while Multnomah was 40% from the floor after the first.
• Coming out of the break, EOU quickly put together a 10-2 run against the Lions to go up by 27 with 17:24 to play in regulation. Capping off the run for the Mountaineers was
Zane Wright who nailed a deep three to make it a 66-39 game.
• The Lions had no answer for the Mountaineers as EOU pushed the lead to 30, 80-50, with a little under 12 minutes to play in the half. A
Paul Pennington layup gave EOU a 30-point edge and the Mountaineers showed no signs of slowing down.
• The Mountaineers eclipsed the century mark with 4:23 to play in the game on a
Preston Chandler layup to give the Mountaineers a 100-66 lead over the Lions. EOU grabbed its largest lead of 42 points late when
Brandon Porter hit a triple to make it a 110-68 game before closing out the contest at 112-72.
Mountaineers Stat Leaders

Max McCullough led all scorers with 27 points on 11-25 shooting. He was 5-13 from deep and fell one rebound shy of a double-double with nine. He also dished out five assists.

Preston Chandler had 18 points off the bench and grabbed five boards. He handed out four assists and shot 8-9 from the floor.
•
Zane Wright scored 11 points on 3-7 made shots. He was a clean 3-3 at the free throw line.
• Three Mounties finished with 10 points to round out the double figure scoring in
Justin Jeske,
Paul Pennington, and
Brandon Porter.
For the Lions
• Zach Richardson was the only Multnomah player in double figures finishing with 18 points on 6-19 shooting.
• Forrest Smith chipped in nine points and led the way in rebounding with seven.
• Wallace Ungwiluk also scored nine points going 4-9 from the floor.
