Mountaineers Downed by Beavers in Exhibition Action

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Men's Soccer played its first game in over a year on Wednesday night as they took on Oregon State University in an exhibition match. The Beavers, also playing in their first contest of the year, downed the Mountaineers by a final of 6-0.

How It Happened
• The Beavers defense held the Mountaineers to without a shot for the night, while their offense totaled 37 shots overall and 15 shots on goal.
• Double figure shots in both frames helped Oregon State's offense score its six goals for the night, with three goals coming in each period.
• The Mounties came out strong on defense in the first period, holding Oregon State scoreless for the first 23 minutes of play.
• Oregon State ended the scoreless bout in the 23rd minute on a bounce back goal from Mouhameth Thiam. It was his first of two goals for the night.
• The Beavers pushed the lead to 2-0 with the help of a penalty kick goal from Sofianne Djeffal in the 30th minute. It was his first of two goals for the game.
• The score grew to 3-0 in favor of the home team as the Beavers scored one final time in the first frame. Thiam notched his second goal of the period in the 39th minute to keep OSU in the driver seat.
• Going into the locker room, the Beavers totaled 18 shots overall and six shots on goal. Defensively, Max Rose had three saves in the first 45 minutes of play.
• Goal No. 4 by Oregon State came at 66:50 mark of the game. Djeffal scored his second goal of the night as the Beavers extended their lead to 4-0.
• Tyrone Mondi scored the fifth goal for Oregon State in the 73rd minute off the quick passing from Javier Marmas and Gloire Amanda. For Amanda, it was his third assist of the game as he also assisted on the first and fourth goals by OSU.
• The final Beaver goal came in the 80th minute. Amanda, who already had three assists on the night, scored late to push the lead to a final of 6-0. Mondi was credited the assist as OSU closed out the home victory.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
• In net, Max Rose finished eight saves in 85 minutes of action.
• Four Mounties played all 90 minutes in Alexander Zuluaga, Jorge Medina, Dillon Van Rensburg, and Patrick Larsen.

For the Beavers
• Gloire Amanda finished with one goal and three assists. He totaled 12 shots total and six shots on goal.
• Both Sofianne Djeffal and Mouhameth Thiam scored two goals apiece and combined for 14 shots.
• Tyrone Mondi had one goal and one assist in 85 minutes of play.

By the Numbers
12 – The Beavers committed 12 fouls on the night compared to just seven by Eastern Oregon.

• The Mountaineers next game will be counted toward their record as they have added a non-conference game to the schedule against Northwest University (Wash.). EOU will host the Eagles on Feb. 21 inside Community Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. PT.
