WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Mountaineer Women's Wrestling had a strong day one performance Friday morning at the Patriot Duals hosted by the University of the Cumberlands. Eastern Oregon posted a 4-1 record with two wins coming against ranked squads.

With the Mountaineers 4-1 record they finished second in Pool B and moved into the top bracket for day two (Red Pool). The Red Pool bracket is made up of the first and second place teams from day one.

The four wins for Eastern came against No. 10 Lyon College (38-10), No. 6 Cumberlands (27-21; blue squad), Tiffin (23-8; green squad), and Liberty (42-0). The lone loss for EOU was against No. 2 Campbellsville, 35-7, against the black squad. 

In the first dual for the Mountaineers, they took down the No. 10 Lyon College Fighting Scots by 12, 30-18. Helping Eastern secure the win was four forfeit wins that racked up 20 points for them. Scoring wins were Stephanie Blankenship at 109 pounds and Dempsi Talkington at 155 pounds. Blankenship pinned her opponent in 2:34 to score five points, while Talkingotn scored a 10-0 tech fall for four points.

In their second match, the Mountaineers secured a hard fought win over the No. 6 Cumberlands Patriots' blue squad, 27-21, to improve to 2-0. Each side picked up one win by way of forfeit, but in head-to-head bouts EOU was the victor at 5-3. Stephanie Blankenship improved to 2-0 on the day with an 11-1 tech fall to give EOU a 9-1 lead to start. The Patriots then won the next two bouts to grab their first lead, 11-9.

At 130pounds, Morgan Shines scored a 14-2 tech fall and EOU was back in front by just one point, 13-12. A pin by Cumberlands at 136 pounds made it a 17-13 score before a 10-0 tech fall by Nayeli Maston at 143 pounds scored four points for EOU and tied the match at 17-all. The Patriots last win came at 155 pounds with a 12-1 tech fall.

The four points by them and the one by EOU made it a 21-18 score. Dempsi Talkington and Olivia Robinson closed things out for EOU to get the win. Talkington pinned her opponent in 6:00 to go to 2-0 and scored five points. Robinson posted a 10-0 tech fall for another four points and the final score rounded out at 27-21.

Against NCAA Division II foe Tiffin, the Mountaineers took down the green squad 23-8. Eastern picked up three wins by forfeit, while three weight classes (109, 123, 191) had double forfeits. Morgan Shines was the first actual bout and improved to 2-1 with a 10-0 tech fall at 130 pounds. The only other win for EOU came at 170 pounds with Olivia Robinson scoring a 10-0 tech fall.

The fourth match of the day was the most dominant for Eastern as they shut out the Liberty Flames 42-0. Five of the Mountaineers' wins were by way of forfeit. Anjelynn Baron had the first head-to-head bout and scored a 12-0 tech fall at 116 pounds. Nayeli Maston was the next match to happen and won by way of a 10-0 tech fall. At 170 pounds, Tenley Swope pinned her opponent in 5:38. In the final bout, Olivia Robinson posted a 16-0 tech fall at 191 pounds to close out the win for the Mountaineers.

The lone loss for EOU was against second-ranked Campbellsville's back squad, 35-7. The Mountaineers only had two forfeit losses but fell in five of the seven head-to-head matches. The lone wins for Eastern came from Tenley Swope at 155 pounds and Olivia Robinson at 170 pounds. Swope scored a 14-5 decision while Robinson posted a 12-2 tech fall.
