Lexington, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its regional award winners for the NAIA Friday morning. Eastern Oregon University had two players earn First Team honors for the Northwest Region.
Making the AVCA All-Region First Team was middle hitter
Cambree Scott and outside hitter
Breanna Shaffer. For the duo, this is the second time each has earned First Team All-Region honors from the AVCA.
Scott was the anchor on the Mountaineers offense and defense. She led the team in kills with 330 and averaged 2.66 per set. She hit a team best .285 and her .285 hitting percentage was sixth highest in the CCC. On defense, Scott was the leader in total blocks with 156 and had 11 come on a solo effort. She averaged 1.26 blocks per set and was the conference leader in both total blocks and blocks per set. Her total blocks ranks fifth, while blocks per set is also ranked 10th in the NAIA. For Scott, she is now a two-time AVCA All-Region selection with both being First Team honors.
Shaffer was a key contributor on both offense and defense as well for the Mountaineers. She was second on the team in total kills with 319 and averaged 2.57 per set. She hit .203 on the year and racked up 15 service aces. She also chipped in 16 assists. Defensively, Shaffer ranked fourth in total digs with 322 and averaged 2.60 per set. She also tallied 46 blocks which was seventh highest for EOU. Shaffer also had a reception percentage of .937. Shaffer, like Scott, is now a two-time AVCA First Team All-Region selection.
As a team, Eastern finished with a 26-9 overall record and went 19-3 in CCC play. They made the NAIA National Championships for the eighth straight year and advanced to the final site once again as well.Â
