SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Mountaineer Women's Soccer saw their 2021 postseason potentially come to a close on Tuesday night as they were eliminated from the CCC Tournament in a 2-0 loss to Northwest University in the quarterfinal round. With the loss, Eastern Oregon's record moves to 11-6-0 on the year.
How it Happened
• Both teams finished with 13 shots in the 90-minute contest and both had eight come on goal. Efficiency was key for the Eagles (10-6-3) as both of their goals came in the first frame.
• Helping the Eagles grab the two-goal lead in the first period was a 5-1 edge in total shots with three coming on goal. EOU's lone shot of the first frame was on goal.
• Northwest grabbed the lead in the 12th minute as a goal from Claire Jo Diede from inside the penalty area found the back of the net to make it a 1-0 game.
• The Eagles goal from Diede was ultimately the gamewinner as the Mountaineers never managed to score the entire night.
• Northwest pushed the lead to 2-0 before halftime with a goal in the 32nd minute. Callie Wright scored the second goal after assisting on the first to give the Eagles a comfortable lead at halftime.
• In the second period, Eastern looked to apply pressure on offense and ripped off 12 more shots and had seven come on goal, but Northwest's defense was stout in keeping the Mountaineers from scoring.
• On the flip side, the Eagles' offense tacked on eight more shots in the second period and had five come on goal.Â
• For the match, the two squads combined for 17 fouls with the Mountaineers having the advantage at 10-7.

• Claire Jo Diede scored the gamewinning goal and took a match best five shots with four being on goal.
• Callie Wright finished with three points on a goal and an assist. She took three shots in the win and had one be on frame.
• Haley Marschall added two shots in the match.
• Goalkeeper Kierstin Patefield posted the shutout and had eight saves in the win.
