Mountaineer Women's Soccer Set for CCC Tournament Action

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The 2021 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Tournament is finally here. Eastern Oregon begins its hunt for a tournament title as the No. 5 seed and will face Northwest University in the quarterfinal round. This year's CCC Tournament is hosted by Bushnell University.

Kickoff
• The Mountaineers enter the postseason with an 11-5 overall record and finished the regular season with an 8-4-0 mark in CCC play.
• This will be the sixth straight year EOU has made the CCC Tournament since 2015. There was no CCC Tournament in 2020 due to COVID-19.
• Eastern must win the CCC Tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.

• The Mountaineers No. 5 seeding for the CCC Tournament is the lowest they have been under the direction of Jacob Plocher.
• EOU has matched up with Northwest three times in the CCC Tournament and is 1-2-0 against the Eagles.
• Northwest has defeated the Mountaineers each of the last two times in the CCC Tournament.

All-CCC Mountaineers
• Going into the postseason, EOU will have four All-CCC players on their team as Morgan Farrington, Sarah Mitchell, Erika Skindlov, and Yahaira Chavarria-Mondragon were all selected.
• Both Farrington and Mitchell were named First Team All-CCC, while Skindlov was named Second Team All-CCC. Mondragon was the lone Honorable Mention All-CCC selection.

• The Mountaineers finished the final weekend of regular season play with a 1-1-0 split on the road. EOU fell at Northwest, 2-0, before securing a 3-0 shutout at Evergreen State.

Scouting the Competition
Northwest University Eagles

• The Eagles enter the CCC Tournament with momentum having won each of their last six contests, including one of them being against EOU. They are 9-6-3 overall and went 8-2-2 in CCC play.
• NU averages 1.61 goals per game on 18.4 shots. They are holding opponents to under 1.00 goals per game at 0.96. They have also posted eight shutouts this season.
• Callie Wright has eight goals and four assists on the season for 20 points to lead the offense.
• Claire Jo Diede has 18 points on six goals and six assists.
• Kayla Soderstrom has three goals and six assists for 12 points.
• Nine Eagles have scored goals this season, led by Wright with eight and Diede with six. Gracie VanAssche, Soderstrom, and Elizabeth Moretti have scored three apiece, and Olivia Morris and Grace Burke have two each. 
• Kierstin Patefield leads the Eagles with 73 saves and carries a 1.00 goals allowed average. She has a CCC-leading eight shutouts this season. She is third all-time at NU with 14 career shutouts.

The CCC Tournament Field
• Oregon Tech won the regular-season CCC championship with an 11-1 conference mark to pick up the first automatic qualifier (AQ) for the NAIA National Tournament and the top seed in the CCC Championship Tournament.
• Southern Oregon University grabbed the No. 2 seed after being predicted to finish seventh in the preseason conference poll. The Raiders come off a 10-2-0 record in CCC action.
• College of Idaho enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed with a 9-3-0 conference mark, while fourth-seeded Northwest University posted a 8-2-2 record in CCC play.
• Eastern Oregon University rounds out the top-five seeds at No. 5, while No. 6 seed Corban University, No. 7 seed Rocky Mountain College and No. 8 seed Carroll College round out the final three spots.
• Top-seeded OIT takes on Carroll on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 5:00 p.m., while second-seeded Rocky and SOU also battle it out at 5:00 p.m. College of Idaho and Corban square off while EOU and NU challenge each other in the nightcap at 8:00 p.m.
• The CCC tournament takes place Nov. 9-12, hosted by Bushnell University. The quarterfinals and semifinals at Willamalane Park in Springfield, Ore., with the championship game kicking off in Civic Park in Eugene, Ore. The CCC Women's Soccer Tournament Champions will grab the conference's second AQ. If the Owls advance to the final, their opponent will earn the AQ.
