Mountaineers Head to Caldwell to Face I-84 Rival Yotes

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Mountaineers Football finishes up play on the road this weekend as they head down the road to face a longtime rival in College of Idaho.

KICKOFF
• Mountaineers Football finishes up regular season road play this weekend as they take on Interstate-84 rival College of Idaho for the second time this season.
• Eastern Oregon is currently on a five-game losing streak following the 34-27 loss at home to Carroll College. The losing streak is the longest for EOU under the direction of Tim Camp. 
• The Mountaineers were picked to win the Frontier Conference in the preseason coaches' poll. They tallied three first place votes and totaled 39 points to edge out College of Idaho and Montana Western.
• College of Idaho enters its final home game of the regular season with a 6-2 overall record and the same mark in Frontier Conference play. 
• The Yotes were picked to finish in a tie for second in the Frontier Conference Coaches' preseason poll with Montana Western. C of I tallied 36 points and had the second most first place votes with two.
• Entering the weekend, the Yotes are currently tied for first in the conference standings with Rocky Mountain College. C of I is also currently ranked No. 19 in the latest NAIA FirstDown PlayBook Top-25 Coaches' Poll.
• The Mountaineers head to Simplot Stadium not only looking to snap a five-game losing streak, but also a five-game skid against the Yotes.

EOU ATHLETICS SPECTATOR POLICY
• Spectators will be allowed at EOU sporting events, but masks will be required to be worn correctly (over mouth AND nose) at ALL indoor and outdoor events per state and local policy. This is subject to change at any time.
• Failure to comply with conference or institutional attendance policies will result in removal from venue and any further EOU contests.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• Defensive Lineman Sage DeLong picked up a pair of weekly awards as he was named the Frontier Conference and NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week.
• DeLong grabbed both honors after setting an EOU single game record for sacks and tackles for loss with 6.0 and 7.0,respectively.
• Not only did DeLong set new single game records in two categories but he also moved up the career list with his performance. He now ranks second all-time in program history in both sacks and tackles for loss. He has 24.0 career sacks and 46.5 career tackles for loss. 

SERIES HISTORY
• The Yotes lead the all-time series against EOU with a 34-13-1 record and currently have won each of the last five matchups.
• EOU last defeated C of I back in 2018, 24-21, in the first game between the two squads. The last win for EOU was also at home inside Community Stadium.
• The Mountaineers last win at C of I was back in 2016 in a 48-14 thrashing of the Yotes.
• Under the direction of Tim Camp, EOU is 5-9 against College of Idaho and 2-4 against them on the road.

LAST MEETING WITH COLLEGE OF IDAHO
LA GRANDE, Ore. - No. 11 Eastern Oregon Football saw its undefeated start to the season come to an end Saturday afternoon as the Mountaineers dropped a 24-7 contest to College of Idaho inside Community Stadium. With the loss, EOU falls to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in Frontier Conference play.

How it Happened
• The Mountaineers were limited to just 259 yards of total offense and one touchdown. Defensively, Eastern surrendered 419 yards of total offense to the Coyotes (3-1, 3-1 Frontier).
• The Yotes struck first scoring with 9:29 on the clock after defense forced Eastern to punt on the opening drive. Jack hit Isaiah Veal in stride for a 39 touchdown pass. Following the PAT, C of I led 7-0.
• The following drive, the Mountaineers countered scoring on a 24 yard run by Kai Quinn. His touchdown run capped a three-minute drive that saw EOU go 67 yards. From then on, the Yotes kept the Mounties' offense at bay.
• The Yotes retook the lead in the first 13 seconds of the second quarter on a drive that stemmed back to the later portion of the first quarter. The Mountaineers held them to a 23-yard field goal that was nailed by Stan Mulderij to make it a 10-7 game.
• Defense was the theme the rest of the first as both squads kept the other from creating any rhythm. The Yotes took a 10-7 lead into the break and it remained that score until late in the third quarter as a costly turnover by EOU put C of I up by two scores.
• The Mountaineers got a big stop on a fourth and three try from the Yotes at the EOU seven yard line. EOU took over on downs after the incomplete pass but on the first play Quinn was picked off as the Yotes took the ball back for a five yard score to make it a 17-7 game.
• The score remained at 17-7 for a good while as the Mountaineers defense made plays to get the ball back into the offense's hands. Despite their efforts, C of I responded each time and kept the Mountaineers' offense from ever getting a rhythm established.
• The Yotes had chances to extend their lead but missed a pair of field goals in the second half. It was not until late in the fourth quarter when C of I added their final score of the contest. A five yard touchdown pass from Rice to Connor Cagain with 2:14 on the clock brought the score to its final, 24-7.

SCOUTING COLLEGE OF IDAHO
• The Yotes enter the weekend with a 6-2 overall record with the same mark in Frontier Conference play. They also check in at No. 19 in the latest NAIA top-25 rankings and have won their last three games.
• Offensively, C of I is now averaging 29.9 points per game and 386.1 yards of total offense. They average 182.1 yards on the ground and 204.0 yards through the air.
• Defensively, the Yotes are holding opponents to 20.6 points per game on just 297.8 yards of total offense. They allow just 91.5 yards rushing and 206.3 yards passing.
• Ryan Hibbs has been the o-to option at quarter as of late. He is 86-130 on the year and has thrown five touchdowns and five interceptions. He is completing 66.2% of his passes.
• Nick Calzaretta continues to lead the ground game with 776 yards on the year. He averages 97.0 yards per game and has scored 12 touchdowns this season.
• Hunter Juarez leads the receiving corps in terms of yards with 384 on 24 catches. His 24 receptions are second most and he has scored one touchdown this season.
• Tied for first in touchdown receptions is Isaiah Veal and Connor Gagain with three, respectively. Gagain also has 16 receptions which is third most on the team.
• Jake Nadley leads the way in catches with 34 for 297 yards. He has also scored one touchdown.
• Dyaln Martinez still anchors the defense for C of I with 93 total tackles, with 58 being assisted. He also leads the team in tackles for loss with 9.0 and he has 2.5 sacks this season.
• Cole Schmidt Is the sacks leader with 5.5 on the year and he is second in tackles for loss with 8.5.
• Taeson Hardin and Isaiah Abdul are tied for the team lead in interceptions with two, respectively.

LAST TIME OUT
LA GRANDE, Ore. - Mountaineers Football suffered its fifth loss in a row Saturday afternoon as the team dropped a 34-27 contest to Carroll College. With the loss, EOU falls to 3-5 overall with the same mark in Frontier Conference play.

How it Happened
• Both squads posted under 300 yard sof total offense. Carroll College (4-4) held the advantage at the end of the day at 294-261.
• Playing a role in the win was the Saints passing game that racked up 302 yards while the ground game was held to -8 yards rushing.
• The Mountaineers put up just 163 yards passing while their rushing attack was just under 100 yards in the game at 98.
• The Saints also forced three turnovers against the Mountaineers and had just one in the win. Defensively, EOU had the edge in sacks at six compared to four by Carroll.
• The Saints struck first on a 26-yard touchdown pass in the final three minutes of the opening quarter. The lone score made it a 7-0 game going into the second.
• The second quarter saw the two teams combine for 27 points in 15 minutes of play.
• EOU scored in the first minute of the frame as Kai Quinn scored on a nine-yard run. Zachary Cahill tacked on his first of three extra point scores to tie it up at 7-all.
• Carroll retook the lead with 10:27 on the clock when Marcus Wittman rushed into the endzone from seven yards out. 
• The Saints 14-7 lead lasted just under two minutes as Nathan Reed capped a 75 yard drive with a two yard touchdown run to knot the affair at 14-14.
• The first field goal of the afternoon came with 4:23 left to play in the first half. Stephen Powell tacked on a 21 yard boot to put the Saints ahead 17-14. 
• Carroll looked to take a three-point into the break but EOU answered right before halftime to tie the game. A 20 yard field goal by Cahill sent the two teams into the locker room tied at 17-all.
• In the second half, EOU grabbed its first lead of the day with just over 11 minutes left in the third. Cahill nailed a field goal from 30 yards out to put Eastern ahead 20-17.
• The score remained at 20-17 until there was 5:42 left on the clock in the third. Andrew James scored on a one yard to give the Mountaineers a 10-point advantage, 27-17.
• Eastern never scored the rest of the game while the Saints tacked on two more touchdowns and a field goal to secure the seven-point win.
• Carroll's lone score of the third quarter was a 24 yard touchdown pass with 2:47 left to play in the frame. The touchdown cut the Saints deficit to three, 27-24, going into the fourth.
• The score remained at 27-24 until the final 3:33 of play in the fourth quarter. A 28 yard touchdown pass put the Saints back in front late at 31-27.
• The Saints pushed their lead to seven with a 33 yards field goal in the final 92 seconds that ultimately helped them secure the road win.

THE MOUNTAINEERS IN FRONTIER CONFERENCE PLAY
• The Mountaineers are currently sixth in the Frontier Conference with a 3-5 record.
• EOU is now 73-59 all-time in Frontier Conference play under Head Coach Tim Camp.

THE MOUNTAINEERS AT HOME
• The Mountaineers are now 1-3 at home this year following the 34-27 loss to Carroll College.
• Eastern Oregon is 36-34 on its home field under the guidance of Tim Camp.
• Since the installation of the turf field in 2018, the Mountaineers are 7-9 at Community Stadium.

THE MOUNTAINEERS ON THE ROAD
• EOU is 2-2 on the road this season following the 22-20 loss at MSU-Northern. EOU's two road wins are against Carroll College and Montana Tech.
• With the loss to MSU-Northern, the Mounties have now dropped back-to-back road contests.
• The Mounties were 2-0 on the road in 2020 with wins at Rocky Mountain and MSU-Northern.

WHEN LEADING AT THE HALF
• This season, Eastern is 2-1 when leading at the half. The lone loss came at MSU-Northern.
• The Mountaineers were 2-1 in 2020 when they led the opposition at halftime. The lone loss came against College of Idaho.
• EOU is now 52-11 under Tim Camp when leading at the half after falling to MSU-Northern.

21 AND UP
• Eastern Oregon is 1-2 this season when scoring 21 or more points.
• The Mounties are now 22-27 under Tim Camp when scoring 21 or more points.
• Last season, EOU scored 21 or more points in all four games.
• When scoring 30 or more points, the Mounties are 1-0 this season and 18-9 under Tim Camp.
• Under the guidance of Tim Camp, EOU is 31-2 when scoring 40 or more points.

SCORING STREAK INTACT
• The Mountaineers have scored at least a field goal in each of its last 158 games.
• The streak dates back to week eight of the 2006 season.
• The last time EOU was shutout was back on October 14, 2006 against Carroll College, 34-0.

2021 FRONTIER CONFERENCE/NAIA STAT LEADERS
• As a team, EOU is fourth in the NAIA in least number of penalties with 33. The team's 296 penalty yards is third lowest as well.
• The Mountaineers 21 total sacks this season is 32nd most in the NAIA. 
• Zachary Cahill is tied for first in the country in field goals made with 11. His field goal percentage of 85% is 11th best in the NAIA.
• Cahill is also tied for first in PAT percentage at 100% (16-16).
• Sage DeLong is now tied for sixth in the NAIA in total sacks at 8.5. He ranks 16th in tackles for loss with 12.5.
• Brennan Pope is tied for 22nd in the nation in pass breakups with eight.

MOUNTAINEERS IN THE CAREER RECORD BOOKS
• Four active players currently rank in the all-time top-10 of the EOU record books in quarterback Kai Quinn, defensive linemen Chase Van Wyck and Sage DeLong, and kicker Zachary Cahill.
• Quinn is now tied for third career rushing touchdowns with 20. He needs one more to tie for second and is five away from tying for first.
• Quinn now ranks sixth all-time in career rushes with 414. He is eight carries away from moving up to fifth on the all-time list.
• Quinn has moved up to No. 6 in career rushing yards. He is at 1,667 yards and is 80 yards away from moving up to fifth.
• In the passing game, Quinn is third all-time in touchdowns thrown with 52. He is second in pass attempts at 1,403. He ranks second as well in pass completions with 729. 
• Quinn is second all-time in total offense yards with 11,196. He has 9,529 passing yards and 1,667 rushing yards.
• DeLong now stands alone at second in career tackles for loss with 46.5. He is now second in career sacks with 24.0 and is 5.5 away from becoming the career leader.
• Van Wyck ranks third all-time in career tackles for loss with 42.5.He ranks third career sacks with 22.5. To become the career leader, Van Wyck needs 7.0 sacks.
• Cahill currently is tied for eighth in career field goals made with 13. He is one shy of tying for seventh. He needs one more field goal attempt to enter the top-10 career list.

AROUND THE FRONTIER CONFERENCE
•.Two teams are currently tied for the conference lead at 6-2 in C of I and Rocky Mountain, while Montana Western is third at 5-3 in conference play.
• MSU-Northern (1-7) heads to No. 17 Rocky Mountain (6-2, 6-2 FC) as the Battlin' Bears look to stay atop the conference leaderboard.
• Southern Oregon (3-5, 3-5 FC) travels north to Carroll College (4-4, 4-4 FC) looking to get one game within .500.
• Montana Tech (4-4, 4-4 FC) faces in-state rival No. 25 Montana Western (6-3, 5-3 FC) as the Bulldogs hope to stay in the top-three of the conference standings.

A WIN OVER COLLEGE OF IDAHO WOULD…
• Snap a five-game losing streak for the Mountaineers.
• Snap a five-game losing streak to the Yotes.
• Push EOU's record to 4-5 overall with the same mark in conference play.

MOUNTAINEERS FOOTBALL HISTORY
• In 88 seasons of EOU Football the Mountaineers have compiled a 342-520-14 (.398) record in 876 total games played.
• EOU won a school-record 10 games in 2016 and made it to the Semifinals of the NAIA FCS Playoffs. EOU has posted a .500 record or better in 31 seasons.
• EOU has won or shared a combined four conference titles in school history with the last coming in 2020. The conference crown in 2020 is the first as a member of the Frontier Conference.
• The Mountaineers have qualified for the NAIA FCS Playoffs once, with their lone appearance coming in 2016.

CAMP AT THE HELM
• Eastern Oregon Head Coach Tim Camp is 77-66 (.538) all-time in his 14th season of leading the Mountaineers.
• Prior to becoming the EOU Head Coach, Camp was the offensive line coach for EOU from 2016-18.
• Prior to working at Eastern Oregon, Camp was an offensive line coach and offensive coordinator at Bucknell University.
• Camp has also served as an assistant coach at University of Nebraska-Omaha, University of the South (Tenn.), and Western Oregon.

• The Mountaineers will close out the 2021 season next Saturday, Nov. 13 at home against in-state rival Southern Oregon. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. PT inside Community Stadium. It will be Senior Day and the Mountaineers will honor 19 outstanding seniors prior to the game.
