CALDWELL, Idaho - Eastern Oregon Women's Basketball continued its winning ways against their longtime rival College of Idaho with an 87-82 win in overtime. With the victory, the Mountaineers improve to 3-4 on the year overall and start 1-0 in conference play.
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers held the edge in almost every statistical category as the two teams battled in what became a high scoring affair late in the contest. EOU had the edge at 47.7%-43.9%.
• Eastern led by as much as 19 points, which came in the third, and played well inside and out. The Yotes forced 22 turnovers and had 18, but EOu won the points off turnover battle 24-21.
• Both teams' reserves made an impact as well with Eastern's scoring 13, while C of I had 12. The Yotes won the points in the paint edge, 48-46, but second chance points went to the Mountaineers, 14-13.
• Both teams played well on defense to start, but it was the deep shooting of
Sailor Liefke that helped EOU grab the lead. A pair of triples by her gave Eastern a 10-7 lead midway through the quarter.
• The Yotes tied the game at 7-all on a pair of free throws before EOU went on a 9-0 run to jump ahead by nine, 16-7. C of I scored four straight to keep the gap at five, 15-11, after one.
• Eastern pushed its lead to 10 in the first three minutes of the second as a three-pointer from
Brandy Smith and a layup from Liefke made it a 21-11 game. The surge forced a C of I timeout.
• C of I managed to get within six, 27-21, at the 2:46 mark of the quarter but EOU once again had an answer through the work in the post by
Haley Robinett.
• Robinett scored the final eight points for Eastern while the defense surrendered just four points to the Yotes to make it a 10-point game at the half. EOU led 35-25 thanks to 48.4% shooting, while the team held C of I to 32.1% shooting.
• In the third quarter, C of I scored right out the gate to get within eight, 35-37, but it was short lived. The Mountaineers went on a 13-3 run to blow open their lead to 48-30 with 6:21 to play.Â
• Both teams traded points the rest of the way but the Mountaineers' surge was the difference as they went into the fourth quarter leading 60-41.
• The Yotes slowly chipped away at the lead in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Mountaineers 35-16 to force overtime.
• In overtime, it was the free throw line and stout defense that led to the win for the Mountaineers. Eastern held the Yotes to just six points and made 9-10 attempts at the charity strip.
• The Mountaineers nine made free throws combined with a made layup from
Ami Tia was enough to lift them to the 87-82 win on the road.
Mountaineers Stat Leaders

Taylor Stricklin paced the offense once again with a 19-point performance on 6-12 shooting. She was a perfect 5-5 at the free throw line and grabbed 12 boards for a double-double.

Sailor Liefke added 18 points on 6-15 made shots. She also took care of the ball dishing out seven assists and was clutch at the charity stripe going 4-4. Liefke also grabbed five rebounds.

Adyson Harris added to the scoring barrage with 17 points on 7-13 shooting and had four boards.Â

Haley Robinett had a near double-double scoring 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the win.
For the Yotes
• Sienna Riggle led all scorers with 26 points on 9-14 shooting. She grabbed 10 boards for the double-double and was 8-12 at the free throw line.
• Lexi Mitchell added 20 points in the loss. She grabbed seven boards and dished out four assists.
• Jada Reed rounded out the double figure scoring for the Yotes with 14 points to go along with seven boards.
• Taryn Riley led the way in assists with six and chipped in eight points.
By the Numbers
16 - Eastern has now won its last 16 games against the Yotes, dating back to 2015.
41 - EOU outrebounded C of I 41-35 in the road win.
6 - The Mountaineers have now out-rebounded their opponents in six games this year.
19 - Eastern dished out 19 assists in the win which is the most in a game this season.
4 - EOU grabbed 11 offensive boards on Tuesday and has now grabbed double-digit offensive rebounds in four straight games.

• The Mountaineers will be back in Caldwell for a pair of games. Their first game will be Friday, Nov. 26 against Simpson. Tip-off against the Red Hawks will be at 2 p.m. PT. They'll play Rocky Mountain College the following day, Nov. 27, with tip-off also being at 2 p.m. PT.
