BILLINGS, Mont. - Eastern Oregon Men's Soccer suffered a tough loss Friday afternoon as the Mountaineers fell 1-0 to Rocky Mountain College in overtime. A golden goal by the Battlin' Bears in the 99th minute propelled them to victory. With the loss, EOU is now 4-6-0 overall and 4-3-0 in conference play.
How it Happened
• The contest had just one goal scored but the Battlin' Bears (5-3-2, 2-3-1 CCC) managed to rip off 21 shots total and had six come on goal, while the Mountaineers had just two shots.
• Despite the edge in shots by Rocky, Eastern Oregon's defense played well as they did not surrender a goal in regulation to force overtime.
• The first half was a scoreless affair despite the Battlin' Bears having an 11-1 shots advantage with three shots coming on goal.
• The lone shot for Eastern in the first period came in the 19th minute on an attempt from
Davis Magee. His shot was on goal, but Rocky Mountain secured the save to keep the score at 0-0.
• In net,
Dalton Mauzay played well in the first 45 minutes of action tallying three saves to set up a second half that continued to be a defensive battle.
• In the second period, Rocky once again continued to apply pressure on offense as the team tallied six shots in the first 15 minutes of play.
• The Mountaineers had just one shot in that same span, but their defense continued to play well and kept the Batllin' Bears from finding the back of the net.
• Defense reigned supreme through all of regulation play as the contest went into overtime. The Battlin' Bears managed to outshoot EOU, 8-1, but had just one shot come on goal.
• In overtime, both squads were once again stout in their defensive play as just one shot was fired off in that span.
• The golden goal of the contest came in the final minute of OT as Milo Downey found the back of the net. He hit the lower right end of the net from 25 yards out to end the contest at 1-0.
