LA GRANDE, Ore. - Mountaineers Football suffered its fifth loss in a row Saturday afternoon as the team dropped a 34-27 contest to Carroll College. With the loss, EOU falls to 3-5 overall with the same mark in Frontier Conference play.
How it Happened
• Both squads posted under 300 yard sof total offense. Carroll College (4-4) held the advantage at the end of the day at 294-261.
• Playing a role in the win was the Saints passing game that racked up 302 yards while the ground game was held to -8 yards rushing.
• The Mountaineers put up just 163 yards passing while their rushing attack was just under 100 yards in the game at 98.
• The Saints also forced three turnovers against the Mountaineers and had just one in the win. Defensively, EOU had the edge in sacks at six compared to four by Carroll.
• The Saints struck first on a 26-yard touchdown pass in the final three minutes of the opening quarter. The lone score made it a 7-0 game going into the second.
• The second quarter saw the two teams combine for 27 points in 15 minutes of play.
• EOU scored in the first minute of the frame as
Kai Quinn scored on a nine-yard run.
Zachary Cahill tacked on his first of three extra point scores to tie it up at 7-all.
• Carroll retook the lead with 10:27 on the clock when Marcus Wittman rushed into the endzone from seven yards out.Â
• The Saints 14-7 lead lasted just under two minutes as
Nathan Reed capped a 75 yard drive with a two yard touchdown run to knot the affair at 14-14.
• The first field goal of the afternoon came with 4:23 left to play in the first half. Stephen Powell tacked on a 21 yard boot to put the Saints ahead 17-14.Â
• Carroll looked to take a three-point into the break but EOU answered right before halftime to tie the game. A 20 yard field goal by Cahill sent the two teams into the locker room tied at 17-all.
• In the second half, EOU grabbed its first lead of the day with just over 11 minutes left in the third. Cahill nailed a field goal from 30 yards out to put Eastern ahead 20-17.
• The score remained at 20-17 until there was 5:42 left on the clock in the third.
Andrew James scored on a one yard to give the Mountaineers a 10-point advantage, 27-17.
• Eastern never scored the rest of the game while the Saints tacked on two more touchdowns and a field goal to secure the seven-point win.
• Carroll's lone score of the third quarter was a 24 yard touchdown pass with 2:47 left to play in the frame. The touchdown cut the Saints deficit to three, 27-24, going into the fourth.
• The score remained at 27-24 until the final 3:33 of play in the fourth quarter. A 28 yard touchdown pass put the Saints back in front late at 31-27.
• The Saints pushed their lead to seven with a 33 yards field goal in the final 92 seconds that ultimately helped them secure the road win.
Mountaineers Stat Leaders

Kai Quinn finished 13-19 passing with 115 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 106 yards and one touchdown.

Isaiah Thomas and
Tyler Brown each had six catches for 66 and 35 yards, respectively.

Zachary Cahill was 3-3 in PAT's and went 2-3 in field goals for nine points.
•
Sage DeLong had 11 total tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, and 6.0 sacks to lead the defense.
For the Saints
• Jack Prka was 20-33 through the air for 278 yards and two touchdown passes.
• Duncan Kraft finished with 34 yards rushing on 14 carries.Â
• Kyle Pierce finished with four catches for 79 yards and a oir of touchdowns.Â
• Micah Ans and Garrett Kocab each finished with five tackles to lead the defense.
