LA GRANDE, Ore. - History was made Friday night inside Community Stadium as senior
Morgan Farrington broke the Eastern Oregon all-time record in goals scored. She scored both goals in the Mountaineers 2-0 win over Carroll College.
Farrington's two goals bring her career total to 30, surpassing Kristen Rice's total of 29 that she set between the 2003-06 seasons. With the win, EOU improves to 10-4-0 overall and is now 7-3-0 in conference play.
How it Happened
• High tempo was the key on offense for EOU as the team outshot the Saints (5-6-1, 4-4-1 CCC) 18-5 and had a 12-2 edge in shots on goal.Â
• Defensively, EOU held Carroll without a shot on goal in the first 45 minutes of play while the offense had eight in that same span.
• The first Farrington goal came in the second minute as she played a pass from
Kana Mateaki to find the back of the net. Her goal gave EOU a quick 1-0 lead and tied her for the program record for career goals scored.
• Despite the early goal by Eastern, the score remained at 1-0 going into halftime. EOU had its chances though, putting up seven more shots on goal before the break.Â
• In the second period, all Farrington needed was 46 second to etch her name into the record books. She played a pass from
Mackinley Gregus and scored from the right side, 20 yards out, to become the career leader in goals scored.
• Leading 2-0 in the 46th minute, EOU continued its high tempo on offense but once again the Saints held up to keep the game from becoming a blowout.
• EOU had just three more shots on goal in the second frame but controlled the pace throughout. Carroll mustered just two shots on goal in the second period before succumbing to the 2-0 loss.
