REDDING, Calif. - Make that two wins in a row now for Eastern Oregon Women's Basketball as the Mountaineers picked up another blowout win on the season opening weekend of play, this time over Simpson University. Eastern took down the host team of the Simpson Classic by 26, 88-62, to improve to 2-0 on the year.
How it Happened
• Eastern continued its hot start with another solid shooting performance. The team shot 68.1% from the floor overall and was 70% from tree-point range.Â
• Defensively, the Mountaineers held the Red Hawks (1-1) to a 39.3 shooting percentage and limited them to just 27.3% from beyond the arc.
• At the free throw line, EOU shot 70.8% on 17-24 made shots, while Simpson was just 60% going 12-20 on the night.Â
• Also helping Eastern in the win was stout rebounding as they grabbed 30 boards to just 17 by Simpson.Â

Sailor Liefke was instrumental in the win, scoring 12 first quarter points en route to a 23-point performance. EOU outscored Simpson 22-16 in the first and never looked back the rest of the night.
• Through the first five minutes of play, the two squads were locked in a 9-9 tie before an 8-2 surge by EOU put the team in front 17-11. Simpson cut it to four at 17-13 and 20-16 before a jumper by Liefke gave EOU a six-point lead after one at 22-16.
• Liefke's jumper at the end of the first jump started a 15-0 run that poured over into the first five minutes of the second quarter to give EOU a 35-16 lead.
• After a scoreless first quarter,
Haley Robinett found a rhythm early on in the second scoring six of the team's first 13 points to help them go up by double figures.
• The Mountaineers' run allowed them to stay in front by double figures the rest of the night. EOU's largest lead of the half came in the final four minutes when Liefke nailed a jumper to make it a 38-18 score.
• Going into halftime, Eastern led by 17, 45-28, thanks in part to a 81% shooting performance in the first half. In the second quarter alone, EOU was 10-11 from the floor and finished the first half shooting 17-22.
• In the third quarter, Simpson looked to stay within reach scoring 17 points while EOU had just 18, which was their lowest in any quarter. The closest Simpson managed to get in the third was 13 points.
• EOU led by as much as 22 in the third and took a 63-45 lead into the final quarter of action. In the fourth quarter, the Mountaineers had their best scoring run with 25 points, while the Red Hawks added 17 yet again.
• The fourth belonged to the duo of Liefke and Robinett, who scored seven points each to guide the offense. The Mountaineers largest lead of the game came late in the fourth when they went ahead by 30, 86-56 with 1:50 left to play in regulation.
• EOU shot 57.7% in the second half to run over the Red Hawks by 26. The Mountaineers defense allowed just 11 shot attempts in the second half and only four connected as the team cruised to another blowout win.Â

Sailor Liefke lled all players with 23 points on 6-8 shooting and was 2-2 from deep. She also finished 9-10 at the free throw line.

Haley Robinett scored 18 in the win and shot 80% from the floor (8-10) She also grabbed five boards.

Adyson Harris chipped in 15 points on 5-7 made shots to round out the double figure scorers.

Taylor Stricklin led the way in rebounding with a game-high 10 and added eight points.
For the Red Hawks
• Sandra Berrocal led Simpson with 19 points on 6-13 shooting.
• Ariadna Rubio was the only other double-digit scorer with 17 points on 7-10 made shots.
• Tymiko Patterson led the way in assists with a game best of four in the loss.
