Mountaineers Set to Take On Hustlin' Owls and Raiders for Senior Weekend

LA GRANDE, Ore. - 18th-ranked Mountaineer Women's Soccer begins its final three-game homestand this weekend against two in-state rivals. Eastern Oregon will also have its Senior Day this Saturday and honor eight outstanding student-athletes following the conclusion of the game.

Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls (8-2-0, 5-1-0 CCC)
Southern Oregon Raiders (7-3-1, 5-1-0 CCC)

Kickoff 
• The Mountaineers (9-2-0, 6-1-0 CCC) enter the weekend currently tied for first in the CCC standings at 18 points with College of Idaho and Corban.
• This weekend's games will be part of the final three-game homestand that Eastern Oregon will have in the 2021 regular season.
• Going into the final three weeks of regular season play, the Mountaineers are still in the hunt for a conference crown.
• Following Saturday's game against SOU, the Mountaineers will honor eight seniors for their contributions to the women's soccer program.

How to Watch/Follow
• All home games this year will be webcast on the Mountie Sports Network at www.EOUSports.com/watch. All EOU home games will be Pay-Per-View and can be purchased for $7.95 per game. Fans can also purchase an Eastern Oregon All-Access pass to watch all 2021-22 EOU home sporting events for $100.
• Calling the action for this year's home games will be Trevor Curl on play-by-play. Livestreams for all home games will begin 15 minutes prior to kickoff.

EOU Athletics Spectator Policy
• Spectators will be allowed at EOU sporting events, but masks will be required to be worn correctly (over mouth AND nose) at ALL indoor and outdoor events per state and local policy. This is subject to change at any time.
• Failure to comply with conference or institutional attendance policies will result in removal from venue and any further EOU contests.

• Concessions will be available for outdoor EOU athletic events, but not indoor EOU athletic events.
• Students, faculty, and staff wishing to attend indoor EOU Athletic Events can do so for FREE by showcasing their EOU ID card.

Story Lines
• The Mountaineers are currently on a two-game winning streak following the loss to College of Idaho and still sit atop the CCC standings.
• Eastern is still undefeated at home this season with a 3-0-0 record and has surrendered just one goal in that span.
• Morgan Farrington is just one goal away from tying the career record at EOU of 29.

2021 Mountaineer Women's Soccer Seniors
• Eastern Oregon will have Senior Day recognition following Saturday's games against Southern Oregon.
• The Mountaineers will honor eight seniors in Katie Arnold, Yahaira Chavarria-Mondragon, Morgan Farrington, Kiara Fontanilla, Mackinley Gregus, Kaitlyn McLeod, Sarah Mitchell, and Kayla Storm.

Last Time Out

• The Mountaineers played in just one game last weekend and came out on top with a 3-0 shutout of Rocky Mountain College. 
• Kaitlyn McLeod paced the offense with three points on a goal scored and an assist.
• In net, Madeline Barker racked up two saves to improve to 8-1-0 on the year.

Previously Against Oregon Tech/Southern Oregon
• EOU and OIT squared off last season in the opening round of the NAIA National Championships. The match was a 0-0 tie but EOU bounced back from a 3-0 PK deficit to advance by a final of 5-4.
• The Mounties and Raiders last met in the 2019 season in Ashland. Eastern walked away the victor with a 1-0 shutout win.
• Eastern is 7-3-3 against OIT since 2007. The last regular season match-up, in 2019, saw the Hustlin' Owls win by a score of 3-1 in Klamath Falls. Since 2007, EOU is 4-0-1 against OIT and is 2-1-1 against them under the direction of Jacob Plocher.
• Since 2007, EOU is only 4-9-1 against Southern but has won each of the last three match-ups. The Mounties are 3-0-0 against the Raider under the direction of Jacob Plocher.

Mountaineers vs. the CCC
• All-time, EOU is 99-102-17 in conference matches since the program's inception in 2001.
• The Mountaineers have finished with a .500 record or better nine times and have done so in each of the last six seasons.
• Eastern has won two regular season CCC titles (2017, 2018) and two CCC Tournament titles (2017, 2019).
• The Mountaineers are 38-6-6 in CCC action under the direction of Jacob Plocher.

There's No Place Like Home
• Since 2017, the Mountaineers are a staggering 28-1-0 at home under Head Coach Jacob Plocher.
• Since 2018, when EOU started playing inside Community Stadium, the team is 22-1-0 at home.
• The Mountaineers are currently on a 12-game winning streak at home dating back to 2019.

Road Warriors
• Eastern is currently 6-1-0 this season in true road contests. Five of the six wins have been shutouts, while one was a forfeit.

Blanking the Opposition
• Of the nine wins for EOU this year, seven have come in shutout fashion.
• Under the direction of Jacob Plocher, the Mountaineers have posted 53 total shutouts.

EOU in the Polls
• The fourth NAIA Top-25 Women's Soccer Coaches' Poll saw the Mountaineers move up two spots to No. 18 following the road win at Rocky Mountain College.
• In the CCC preseason coaches' poll, Eastern was tabbed to win the conference crown. The Mounties tallied nine first-place votes and racked up 164 points.
• The next scheduled NAIA top-25 poll is set to release Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Scouting the Competition
Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls

• OIT comes to La Grande with an 8-2-0 overall record and is 5-1-0 in CCC play. The Hustlin' Owls are currently sitting fourth in the CCC standings and are on a three-game win streak.
• Offensively, OIT has scored 19 goals this season and averages 1.90 goals per game. They take 17.3 shots per game and have tallied 14 assists on the year.
• Defensively, the Hustlin' Owls have allowed just four goals this season and hold opponents to just 5.6 shots per game. They have 21 saves on the year and have posted seven shutouts.
• Mehana Ortiz leads the offense with six goals and three assists for a team best 15 points. Her three assists are also tied for the team lead. She has taken 38 shots and had 23 come on goal.
• Five players are tied for second in goals scored with two. Second overall in points is Nyah Kendall who has a pair of goals and three assists for seven points.
• Third on the team in point total is Amanda Seward with six. She has scored a pair of goals and has two assists on the year.
• Alyx Burkhartzmeyer has started nine games in net for the Hustlin' Owls. She has 18 saves on the year and a save percentage of .857.

Southern Oregon Raiders
• SOU sports a 7-3-1 overall record and is 5-1-0 in conference play. They have 15 points and are currently tied for fourth with Oregon Tech.
• Offensively, the Raiders have scored 17 goals this season and average 1.55 per game and take 12.6 shots per game as well. They have tallied 16 assists this season.
• On defense, SOU has surrendered just five goals this year and are holding opponents to 11.1 shots per game. They have 56 saves this year and have posted six shutouts.
• Sarah Mauk leads the offense with 16 points on a team best four goals and two assists. She has taken 16 shots total and had 10 come on goal. 
• Second on the team in goals scored is Mia Santander with three. She also has one assist for seven points. She has 11 shots taken with five coming on goal.
• Kaya Baird has taken the most shots with 199 and had 11 come on goal. She has scored two goals to tie for third on the team.
• Jessie Selby and Ashlynn Hernandez have split time at goalkeeper this year. Both have started in five contests. Selby has 35 saves to Hernandez's 20. 

Up Next
• The Mountaineers final home game of the 2021 season will be next week when they face Carroll College on Friday, Oct. 22. Kickoff against the Saints is set for 6;30 p.m. PT inside Community Stadium.
