Raiders Use Big 4th Quarter to Down Mountaineers 76-69 in CCC Semis

LA GRANDE, Ore. – No. 3-seeded Southern Oregon used a crushing 27-10 fourth quarter advantage to upset the No. 2 seed and 25-ranked Eastern Oregon women's basketball team 76-69 on Friday night at Quinn Coliseum in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Semifinals, presented by U.S. Bank.

The Raiders (19-9) advance to the finals of the conference tournament where they visit CCC regular season champions Northwest Christian on Monday at 7 p.m. in Eugene, Oregon. By virtue of NCU owning the first automatic qualifier to the NAIA Championships, the Raiders earn the CCC's second auto qualifier.

The Mountaineers (22-9) will await the NAIA Selections Show, which takes place on Wednesday, March 4 at 4 p.m. Pacific time, to see if they receive an at large bid to nationals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Eastern led 59-49 at the start of the fourth quarter after junior Taylor Stricklin knocked down a three-pointer at the buzzer, looking like they could begin to pull away. The Raiders, however, collected themselves and came out with a 12-2 run to tie the game 61-61 just 3:18 into the fourth. SOU got a three by Kami Walk on their next possession to go ahead 64-61 and held the lead the rest of the way as they ended the game outscoring EOU 15-8.

The first half was a tight battle as SOU led 21-20 after the first quarter. The Mounties led by seven late in the second quarter, but the Raiders closed the half on a 6-0 run to trail just 36-35. Eastern started the game shooting a blistering 6-for-8 from behind the arc in the first quarter.

The third quarter was EOU's best, outscoring Southern 23-14. Tied at 40, the Mounties finished the third on a 19-9 run to lead 59-49. Stricklin's three pointer gave them their 10th of the night already with still a quarter remaining, but the Mountaineers were limited to just one in the final 10 minutes.

Kalei Iwami led the Raiders with 15 points, including three triples. Dominique Harding scored 14, Kami Walk had 12 and Kenadee Honaker finished with 10 points, all in the first half. The Raiders finished with 13 three pointers with five coming in the fourth quarter.

The Mountaineers had three players with 13 points with seniors Jane Nelson, Emma Logan and Rachel Fielder. Junior Taylor Stricklin had 11 points and seven rebounds while senior Kylie Smith added nine points and eight boards.
