Mountaineers Slip 92-84 at Multnomah

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men's basketball team nearly completed a double-digit comeback, but fell short on Saturday night in a 92-84 loss to Multnomah in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

The NAIA's leading scorer Justin Martin continued to single-handedly outscore opponents, dropping 43 points to help lead the Lions over EOU. Junior Max McCullough had 24 points and junior Brandon Porter had a Mountaineer career-high with 20 points to lead the Eastern offense. Senior Jarek Schetzle added a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions had a great first half by shooting 55 percent from the field and draining 10 three pointers to hold a 56-43 lead at halftime. EOU used nearly the entire second half to battle back into the game, finally tying the score 79-79 with 3:59 to play.

The Mounties would never grab the lead, however, as Multnomah scored the next seven points to go ahead 86-79 with just a minute remaining.

BY THE NUMBERS
1 – After allowing 10 three's in the first half, the Mountaineers limited Multnomah to just one in the second half to help fuel the comeback.
91 – The Lions made 91 percent of their free throws (21-for-23), to keep EOU at bay late in the game.
20 – Porter had his EOU career-high with 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting.
