Schetzle’s Big Game Leads EOU Past Knights 71-62

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon earned a big road victory on Friday night, carried by the shoulders of senior Jarek Schetzle, who posted a double-double in the 71-61 Cascade Collegiate Conference victory.

Schetzle was nearly unstoppable, especially in the second half, posting 29 points and 10 rebounds while making 12-of-18 shots. The Mountaineers (11-10, 5-7 CCC) led nearly all night, trailing only once early in the first half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue and Gold jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but saw it quickly disappear as the Knights scored the next six points to pick up their only lead of the game. The Mounties scored the next eight points and never trailed or tied for the rest of the night. They led by as many as eight in the first half, holding a 33-26 advantage at halftime.

10 minutes into the second half, the Mountaineers had their largest lead of the game, up 45-35 after a Schetzle layup. EOU later went up by 14 and saw their lead only falter to seven points before sealing the win 71-62.

The EOU defense played a big role, holding the Knights to 34.5 percent shooting on the night, which included a 26.7 percent first half field goal percentage.

Senior Landon Jones also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Junior Max McCullough added 11 points with seven assists and five rebounds. Junior Josh Brown finished with six points and 10 rebounds while junior Andreas Brown scored nine points off the bench.
