No. 7 Women’s Soccer Lights Up Beacons 10-0

EUGENE, Ore.- The No. 7 Eastern Oregon women's soccer team took its momentum from preseason and used it to stun the Northwest Christian Beacons 10-0 on Friday afternoon in the Casacde Collegiate Conference opener.

The Mountaineers (4-0-1) couldn't have asked for a better result for their first game of conference play on the road in Eugene. EOU found the back of the net 10 times throughout the match, including a program record-tying nine goals in the second half. The 10 goals were scored by six different players and set a new program record in a conference match.

The Beacons (1-4-0) managed to keep the Mounties at bay during the first half, only allowing one goal. However, the pressure was there as the Mountaineers remained a threat in front of goal putting up 17 shots, forcing Northwest Christian keeper Makenna Hadaller to make six saves.

The first goal came through Morgan Farrington when she connected with a Camie Edgington through ball. Farrington didn't slow down there, scoring another two goals in the second half to grab her hat-trick while assisting both Cailin Koupal and Nan Kiebert on their first goals of the 2019 season. Farrington is now the teams leading goal scorer, scoring five goals in the last two games, recording eight total points in Friday's win.

Edginton also had a busy afternoon, contributing to the score sheet with two of her own. She scored her first when Abri Cardenas won the ball in the midfield heading it over the defender, taking it down the field and playing a square ball across the goal for an easy finish for Edgington. The midfielder was not only scoring goals, but she also set up her teammates, tallying three assists.

Reining newcomer of the year Mackinley Gregus got into the action by heading the ball into the back of the net off of a corner. Less than 1 minute later, Gregus buried her second by beating Hadaller one on one.

Freshman Erika Skindlov was one of the six goal scorers when she pulled the trigger from close range for the team's seventh goal. Korilynn Goller, Jenna Jensen and Kaitlyn McLeod each had an assist.

The Mountaineer defense was very well organized and limited the Beacons to only one shot throughout the 90 minutes. Goalkeepers Cydni Cottrell and Savannah Hutchinson combined for the shutout.

The team will travel to Salem on Saturday to face Corban University with kickoff against scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
