The Blue and Gold ended 2018 with a 6-4 record, including two top-25 wins. The team finished tied for second place in the Frontier Conference, just one game behind Rocky Mountain, who went onto the NAIA Championships. EOU finished the year with an 8-7 victory at Carroll College.

The Mountaineers are 13-30-1 all-time against the College of Idaho, but are 5-5 under head coach Tim Camp. The Mounties fell to the Yotes 48-24 on Oct. 27 as the teams split the season series. EOU is 2-3 in Caldwell under Camp.

EOU holds an all-time record of 285-467-14 (.379). 2019 marks the 74th-consecutive season in program history. EOU did not compete between 1942-45 due to World War II.

In the previous matchup with the Yotes, EOU threw for 451 yards as wide receiver Brenden Kelly set the program record with 281 yards receiving and quarterback Kai Quinn had the second most passing yards in a game (451). It was not enough, however, as EOU fell 48-24.

The Mountaineers are 34-28 on the road all-time under Camp. They went 7-1 as the visiting team in 2016, but were 1-4 on the road in 2017. EOU improved its road record in 2018, going 3-2 including a win over No. 7 Southern Oregon 27-17 in Ashland.

The Mountaineers made their first trip to the NAIA Championships in 2016, reaching the semifinals.

The Yotes started 2018 with an 0-4 record in conference, but rolled off six-straight wins to end the season, finishing tied with EOU, Southern Oregon and Montana Western for second place. The streak earned them a preseason ranking of No. 15 and the favorites to win the Frontier.
