Eastern Oregon Falls in Second Doubleheader vs. No. 16 Corban

SALEM, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon softball team was swept in the second doubleheader against No. 16 Corban, dropping the game 13-2 and 5-1 on Sunday in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

GAME 1 | No. 16 Corban 13, (RV) Eastern Oregon 2 (F/5)

The Mountaineers (2-16, 1-5 CCC) dropped game three of the series against Corban, the final counting game in the CCC. The Blue and Gold struggled on the defensive side of the ball, allowing eight runs in the first two innings. Corban's Madison Wyllie hit a homerun with the bases loaded, giving the Warriors the momentum they needed in the second inning. EOU had four errors in the game, resulting in six unearned runs.

EOU freshman Haley Ebner got the offense going with a home run of her own, in the bottom of the second inning. Ebner would finish the game 1-for-2 with one RBI and a hit by pitch.

Eastern Oregon added a run in the third inning, to cut the deficit to six. Senior Rayne Spencer doubled to center to open the frame, scoring on a single up the middle by senior Madison Barr.

Spencer would go on to finish the game batting 1-for-3 while Barr finished 2-for-3 with the RBI. The Blue and Gold also got hits from junior Jordan Henley, junior Ashley Kelly and freshman Brianna Zweygardt.

The Mountaineers tallied a total of seven hits, but Corban's bats were too hot to handle. The Warriors would go on to score five more runs in the fourth inning, allowing them to gain a 13-2 lead, forcing the game to end in the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.

Junior Jessica Lambert pitched 4.1 innings in relief, allowing six runs with four earned, adding four strikeouts.

GAME 2 | No. 16 Corban 5, (RV) Eastern Oregon 1

In the final game of the series, the Mountaineers couldn't out the weekend with a victory. However, the Blue and Gold were the first to put a run up on the scoreboard in the second inning. Junior Jordan Shaw singled up the middle, scoring senior Sarah Bonner from second. Bonner led the offense, going 2-for-3 with the lone run scored.

In the next inning, Corban answered with four runs to take the lead, adding another run in the fifth. The Warriors did not allow a single run over the next five innings, taking down EOU 5-1.

Eastern Oregon would tally a total of six hits throughout the contest. Barr, Kelly and Zweygardt each added hits in the final game of the series.

Sophomore Amanda Smith pitched a complete game, allowing five runs over seven innings with four strikeouts.

The Mountaineers will look to bounce back from the series loss, visiting British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C. on Friday and Saturday. The series will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
