No. 9 EOU Claims CCC Title Outright with 84-38 Win over Multnomah

LA GRANDE, Ore. – After winning at least a share of the title a night prior, the No. 9 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team claimed the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season championship outright on Saturday for Senior Night, defeating Multnomah University 84-38 in Quinn Coliseum.

The Mountaineers (24-2, 18-0 CCC) had yet another historic night. The Mountaineers continued their remarkable three-point shooting with the help of senior Maren Herrud's career highs as a Mountaineer of 27 points and 11 rebounds, while shooting 5-for-6 from behind the arc. EOU shot 12-for-25 from three, and 50 percent from the field.

The Blue and Gold claimed their third-straight title and second in a row outright with the win. The team improved its winning streak to 24 games as they continue to dominate conference opponents.

EOU senior star Maya Ah You Dias started the game off slower than usual, held to only 11 points and six rebounds in the first half. She finished the game with 13 points. But that didn't slow down the Mountaineers attack, as junior Jane Nelson started off the game hitting three three-pointers in the first quarter. Nelson finished the game with 14 points.

The Mounties' suffocating defense forced Multnomah to 25 percent shooting from the field and 12 percent from behind the arc. Alaygza Portis led Multnomah with 10 points and five rebounds in the game.

The second half started similar as the first. Nelson came out shooting, hitting a long jumper in the first 15 seconds of the half. Junior Madison Crews kept the offense flowing with her five points and nine assists.

In a night to honor seniors, head coach Anji Weissenfluh found a way to play all four seniors, Ah You Dias, Herrud, Julia Hanni, and Khadija Neumeyer. A special moment happened when injured Neumeyer started the game and slowly dribbled the ball up the court to shoot her last shot at EOU. Immediately after, she was subbed out and received a standing ovation by the Mountaineer faithful.

After the game,  the Mounties received their Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship banner and trophy, as well as securing an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships. The team will also be the No. 1-seed for the CCC Championships.

The Mountaineers will look to finish strong on the road against Oregon Tech on Friday before visiting rival Southern Oregon on Saturday in the regular season finale.
