No. 9 EOU Draws No. 24 Saint Francis to Open NAIA Championships

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No.9 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team discovered their opening round matchup at the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championships, facing off with No. 24 Saint Francis on Wednesday, March 6 at 10:15 a.m. CST. in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Mountaineers will be the No. 3 seed in the Naismith bracket, which also includes No. 1-ranked Concordia (Neb.) and No. 7 Indiana Tech.
 
EOU finished the regular season and CCC tournament with a record of 28-3, including a 19-1 mark in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Mounties won both the regular season title, automatically giving them a bid to the national championships, along with their third-straight CCC tournament title, the sixth overall in school history. The team is making its 11th overall appearance at the national tourney and third in a row.
 
Eastern Oregon will prepare to face-off against No. 6-seed Saint Francis (Ind.). The Cougars enter the tournament with a record of 20-12, finishing fourth in the Crossroads Conference with 11 wins and seven losses. The Cougars then went onto lose against Taylor University in the semifinals of the conference tournament 63-5., Taylor got a bid to the national tournament as well. Junior forward Kara Gerka leads the Cougars averaging 14 points, five rebounds, and a 53 percent shooting average. 
 
In the NAIA Women's Basketball Coaches Final Top-25 Poll, EOU remains ranked No. 9 in the nation. The national tournament also includes the CCC's No. 23 Corban in the Duer Bracket and No. 25 Oregon Tech in the Liston Bracket.

EOU will host a watch party for all women's basketball postseason contests in the booster room of Quinn Coliseum.
