No. 9 EOU Downs Multnomah 91-62, Advances to Semifinals of CCC Tournament

HIGHLIGHTS

LA GRANDE, Ore. –
The No. 9 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team and No. 1-seed in the tournament defeated No. 8-seed Multnomah 91-62, advancing to the semifinals of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, on Tuesday night at Quinn Coliseum.

The Mountaineers (26-2, 19-1 CCC) came out on top in the opening round of the tourney, demonstrating what they've done all season long. EOU came out shooting threes like always, hitting 11-of-28 while shooting a tremendous 48.5 percent from the field. The Mountaineers were led by senior guard Maya Ah You Dias, who posted 23 points, 14 rebounds, and two steals.

EOU had 11 different players contribute in scoring in the 29-point blow out victory. Senior Maren Herrud was the second leading scorer with 14 points, followed by junior Emma Logan's 11 points, 7 rebounds and junior Kylie Smith added nine points and 10 rebounds for a near double-double. Junior Madison Crews had seven assists and five rebounds while senior Julia Hanni had nine points.

The Mountaineers came out the gate with high energy and effort, spreading the scoring between six different players in the first quarter. Logan led the way with her five points in the first 10 minutes. Then came the hot hand of Ah You Dias, hitting back-to-back threes to open the second quarter, scoring 17 points in the first half on 6-of-12 shooting.

Similar to the first half, EOU came out in the second feeding the hot hand of Ah You Dias. Head coach Anji Weissenfluh continued to utilize her bench like she has all year, playing a total of 13 players in the game to help keep energy high on the floor. The Mounties did a good job on the defensive end, only allowing the Lions to the free throw line three times. On the other end, EOU knocked down 14-of-18 chances at the charity stripe.

Multnomah continued to keep the pressure on the Mountaineers with the help of junior guard Sequoia Wheeler's 21 points, followed by senior guard Bethany George who had 14 points.

The Mounties will host the semifinals of the CCC tournament on Friday against the College of Idaho at Quinn Coliseum at 7 p.m. EOU will presell tickets once again on Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the main ticket booth in Quinn Coliseum.
