Classic! No. 9 EOU Outlasts C of I 96-87 in Double OT in CCC Semis

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 9 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team outlasted the College of Idaho in a double overtime thriller, 96-87, in the semifinals of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank on Friday at Quinn Coliseum, advancing to the finals on Monday.

Friday's game was an instant classic between two long time rivals in the No. 1-seeded Mountaineers (27-3, 19-1 CCC) and No. 5-seeded Yotes. The game featured 11 lead changes and 15 tied scores, while the largest lead of the game was just nine points, which EOU held to end the game.

The Mountaineers jumped out to a lead in the second overtime period, thanks to eight points, including two three pointers, by senior guard Maya Ah You Dias. The Yotes were forced to foul in the period, and EOU came up clutch, making 11-of-14 free throws to clinch the game. Ah You Dias, juniors Madison Crews and Whitney Meier and freshman Beverly Slater all made free throws in the double overtime.

Ah You Dias led the charge in the game, finishing with 42 points, the second highest total in program history, and 15 rebounds in 42 minutes on the floor. The senior shot 14-for-22 from the field and 4-for-7 from the three, making all four of the team's three pointers in the game.

The fourth quarter and first overtime period each featured wild finishes. In the first overtime, the Yotes tied the score 77-77 with 44 seconds left. C of I then came up with a steal and could potentially score the winning basket, but the Mounties forced a turnover with nine seconds to get the final possession. However, EOU was unable to get a shot off as the teams went headed to the second overtime period.

In the fourth quarter, junior Emma Logan had a great cut to the basket with 24 seconds left, scoring the go-ahead points on an assist by Slater 65-63. The Yotes tied the game with 11 seconds on a jumper by Emily Hardwood. With the final possession, Meier's potential game-winning three rimmed out to send the game to extra time.

Senior Maren Herrud finished with 14 points and was 8-for-10 from the charity stripe. Slater had a great game with a double-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while playing big minutes in the fourth quarter and both overtimes. Logan posted 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

The Mountaineers came out in the first half struggling from behind the three point line, not hitting a single three pointer. Ah You Dias led the offense in the first half, tallying 12 points and six rebounds.

The Blue and Gold shot 41 percent from the field, but were just 4-for-21 from behind the arc. The Mounties only had two three pointers before the second overtime. Despite the cold shooting from outside, EOU got to the free throw line 42 times, making 32.

The Yotes were led by five scorers in double digits, including Mackenzie Royce's 15 points, six assists and five rebounds in 48 minutes. The Yotes end their season with an incredible effort in the final game, posting a 16-14 record.

Eastern Oregon will next host the CCC Championship game for the second year in a row on Monday against No. 2 seed Corban at 7 p.m. in Quinn Coliseum. Tickets will be for sale in the Quinn Coliseum ticket booth from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The game will be aired live regionally on ROOT Sports Northwest.
