EOU Slips in Non-Conference Bout vs. Carroll

BUTTE, Mont. – The Eastern Oregon men's basketball team fell in the finale of the Montana Tech Fall Classic, 89-72 to Carroll College on Saturday night.

A slow first half for the Mountaineers (2-2) ultimately doomed them as EOU fell behind 43-26 through 20 minutes. The teams matched scores in the second half, but the 17-point deficit was too much to overcome for the Mounties.

Senior forward Landon Jones had his third-straight double-double, finishing with team-highs of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jones shot 6-for-8 from the field in 33 minutes played.

Junior guard Max McCullough had 11 points and seven assists. The Mountaineer bench came through with 28 points, paced by junior Brandon Porter's 11 and senior Brock Johnson's six points. Junior Josh Brown had nine points, playing 30 minutes.

Carroll used a 12-0 run midway through the first half to jump ahead 25-10, never relinquishing the lead. EOU pulled the deficit to within seven points, but never got it back under double digits in the second half.

The Mountaineers are next at home, hosting California Miramar on Saturday at 5 p.m. in an exhibition matchup at Quinn Coliseum.
