Mounties Sweep Northwest Indian with 109-61 Saturday Win

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men's basketball team picked up where they left off on Friday, handling Northwest Indian109-61 on Saturday evening at Quinn Coliseum.
 
A technical foul free throw by junior Max McCullough gave the Mountaineers (5-2) the lead before the opening tip off, one that they would never relinquish as they led for all 40 minutes of Saturday's contest.
 
The Eagles hung with EOU through the first 20 minutes, just trailing 50-36 heading to the halftime locker room as they shot 43 percent to Eastern's 46 percent.
 
Like Friday, the second half was all EOU as the Mountaineers won the period 59-25 with a 55.26 field goal percentage.
 
Senior Jarek Schetzle was not guardable in 21 minutes, finishing with 28 points and 12 rebounds and many highlight reel dunks. McCullough also had a double-double with 22 points and 10 boards, finishing three assists of a triple-double. Freshman Preston Chandler had career-highs of 18 points and nine rebounds as he shot 10-for-12 at the free throw line.
 
The Eagles had little defense for EOU's paint presence between Schetzle, Chandler and others as the Mounties finished with 58 points in the paint to NIC's 16. EOU also had 26 second-chance points thanks to 17 offensive rebounds.
 
The Mountaineers will be off for the next two weeks, next playing in the first games of the Cascade Collegiate Conference season. On Dec. 6, EOU will host Multnomah at 7:30 p.m. for the opener, followed by Warner Pacific on Dec. 7.
