EOU Men’s Soccer Crushes Carroll 4-1

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men's soccer team enjoyed playing in front of its home crowd for the first time in over a month, defeating Carroll College 4-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Friday night.

The Mountaineers (4-4-1, 2-2-0 CCC) evened their record overall in the conference with a decisive victory, scoring two goals in each half. It didn't take long for them to get on the board, as in the fifth minute junior Patrick Larsen drove to the net and drew a penalty in the box to setup a penalty kick for the Mounties. Junior Javier Moran made good on the PK, give EOU the early 1-0 lead.

Just a few minutes later, however, Carroll got the tying goal as the ball bounced around just outside the box, eventually finding Nick Lowrimore who used an EOU defender to deflect it into the net.

After that wild start, it took some time for the next ball to find netting. However, in the 33rd minute, senior defender Jack Rose stepped up and received a pass before smashing one through a few defenders and past the Saints' goalkeeper for the eventual game-winning goal. The Mounties took the 2-1 lead into halftime.

In the second half, EOU used a quick strike offense to put the game out of reach. Junior defender Erik Mattice threaded a beautiful cross to the far post, finding Larsen who fully stretched out to head the ball into the net. The entire EOU team celebrated in the corner of the field after the dynamic goal by Larsen and Mattice.

Only four minutes later, the Saints received goal kick. However, Mattice jumped the kick and in one quick motion, smashed the fourth goal of the match for EOU past an unsuspecting Carroll keeper from 30 yards out.

EOU goalkeeper Max Rose was stout in net, making six saves while facing 11 total in the match. The Mounties led the shot charts with 17 total and seven on goal. Mike Dias and Moran paced the team with four shots each and two on goal.

The Mountaineers finish the home stand on Saturday, hosting Providence at 6:30 p.m. at Community Stadium.
