Big 2nd Half Leads Men’s Basketball to 107-95 Win Over PUC on Saturday

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men's basketball team used a 15-0 run midway through the second half to jump ahead of Pacific Union College, defeating the Pioneers 107-95 on Saturday night at the annual Quinn Classic.
 
The Mountaineers (2-0) went undefeated at their season opening home tournament despite trailing at the half 46-43 at the half against Pacific Union.
 
However, EOU came out firing in the second, shooting 18-for-26 for 69.2 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes. The Mounties also got to the free throw line and knocked down their shots effectively, going 23-for-27 in the second half and 32-for-37 overall in the game.
 
Senior Landon Jones had a big game, including a dominant second half. Jones finished with a double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds, with 17 points and nine boards coming in the second half alone. He was also 9-for-12 from the charity stripe in the 37 minutes played.
 
Junior Josh Brown led the offense overall with 28 points. The transfer was very efficient, shooting 9-for-12 from the field and 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Brown played 39 minutes for EOU, adding eight assists and five rebounds in an all-around great performance.
 
Junior Max McCullough had 12 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Sophomore Zane Wright posted 11 points while senior Brock Johnson finished with 10 points. Senior Jarek Schetzle had a quick nine points, despite only playing five minutes due to foul trouble.
 
The Mountaineers next head to the Montana Tech Fall Classic in Butte, facing Montana Tech on Nov. 1 and Carroll College on Nov. 2.
