No. 6 EOU Women's Soccer Upset by Oregon Tech 3-1

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The No. 6 Eastern Oregon women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season against Oregon Tech, falling 3-1 Friday afternoon in Cascade Collegiate play.

The first half was a tight contest with both teams battling back and forth, but with no goals scored. EOU had the better of the chances in the first half but could not put them away. OIT then used three second half goals to run away with the win, upsetting the No. 6 Mountaineers. EOU finished the game with eight shots on goal, compared to Oregon Tech's three, all of which resulted in goals.

To open the scoring, the Owls made a run into the goal area and an EOU defender fouled her inside the 18-yard box, giving away a penalty kick. Amanda Seward stepped up and scored off the spot to put Oregon Tech up 1-0 early in the second half.

Josee Bassett almost snagged the equalizer when EOU won a foul in their attacking third. Bassett stepped up and took the free kick, sending a great ball into the area, however, it connected with the cross bar and went out of play for a goal kick.

OIT doubled the lead with 18 minutes left in the match when they took the ball down the field and Maddie Miller struck the ball low and hard to the bottom left corner, beating senior keeper Cydni Cottrell. The Owls put the game further out of reach for the Mountaineers after capitalizing on a set piece as Miller headed the ball into the back of the net for her second of the game.

The Mounties pulled back a goal to keep the deficit to two goals. Morgan Farrington ran through the Owl defense taking a shot that the keeper blocked, but Nan Kiebert cleaned it up to make the score 3-1.

Oregon Tech's goalkeeper played a big role in the win, putting up seven saves to keep the Mountaineers at bay.

The Mountaineers will head to Southern Oregon on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. to finish the road weekend.
