Balanced Offense Earns EOU Close 75-72 Win Over Corban

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men's basketball team advanced to 7-1 in Quinn Coliseum this season, defeating Corban 75-72 behind a balanced scoring night on Friday in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

The Mountaineers (11-10, 6-4 CCC) had four scorers in double figures, led by 16 points by sophomore guard Jordan May. Junior forward Jarek Schetzle posted 14 points with a team-high eight rebounds, sophomore forward Peter Hamilton had 12 points and freshman guard Zane Wright added 10 points.

As a team, EOU sunk 48.2 percent of its shots and an efficient 42.9 percent from behind the arc in a consistent evening. The team made it difficult for the Warriors (13-7, 4-6) to guard any one player.

After a tied first half, the second was a story of back-and-forth runs for each team. With the score tied 45-45 with 13:23 to play, the Mounties went on an 18-6 run over the next seven minutes to grab a 63-51 advantage, looking to well in control of the game's outcome.

However, Corban quickly responded and trailed just 63-60 after a 9-0 run in less than two minutes. The Mountaineers made 6-of-8 free throws to end the game and keep enough distance from the Warriors. AJ Hodges had two late three pointers for Corban that kept pulling the Warriors to within striking range, but EOU was able to their free shots and ice the game.

Sophomore guard Brock Johnson and redshirt freshman guard Kobi Gardea provided secondary scoring with eight and seven points, respectively. May had five assists and three assists, while Hamilton and Gardea paced the team with five assists apiece.

Hodges led the Warriors with 14 points. Jaxon Hughes added 13 while Beau Roggebach had 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Mountaineers remain at home on Saturday, hosting Northwest Christian in Quinn Coliseum at 7:30 p.m.
