Men’s Basketball Falls to Warner Pacific 80-64

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men's basketball team slipped on the road Saturday night, dropping a Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup at Warner Pacific 80-64.

With both teams receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll, Saturday's matchup was a big one for both squads who looked to rebound off losses the previous night. Warner Pacific (12-7, 4-5 CCC) led nearly the whole game and held off a late EOU comeback to win by double-digits.

The Mountaineers (9-10, 5-4 CCC) made 41 percent of their shots, but were limited to 3-for-16 from behind the arc. On the other side, the Knights made 11 three-pointers, proving to be one of the differences in the game.

Junior Landon Jones had another strong night for EOU, posting 18 points after scoring 20 with 19 rebounds on Friday. Junior Jarek Schetzle nearly had a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Leading scorer Jordan May was limited to 14 minutes on the court due to an injury and saw only a few minutes in the second half, limiting EOU's chances at a comeback.

Despite falling behind by 14 midway through the second half, the Mounties brought the game back within seven points 56-49 after a made three by senior Said Hersi with 9:38 to play. The Knights did not let EOU any closer from there, however, outscoring EOU 24-15 over the final stretch of the game.

The Mountaineers are next back at home, hosting Corban on Friday and Northwest Christian on Saturday at Quinn Coliseum.
