EOU Men's Soccer Flies Past Owls 2-1

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon men's soccer team finished the weekend strong after defeating Oregon Tech 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

With the score 1-1 late in the game, junior Carlos Solorio netted his team-best fifth goal of the year in the 82nd minute, calmly slotting the ball past senior goalkeeper Gerardo Skewes.

The goal came after an extremely closely played second half that featured 20 total shots between the two teams and a 11-9 advantage for the Owls (3-4-1, 2-2-0 CCC). Eastern Oregon (5-2-1, 3-1-0) played shutdown defense for the final eight minutes to seal the victory.

The opening 45 minutes saw a flurry of shots from both sides, with an accumulated 13 shots between both teams. A very physical first half featured a total of 18 fouls as both squads were aggressive on any loose ball.

The first goal arrived when senior defender Steven Beaudry delivered a cross pass from the left wing that freshman Connor Young headed into the net. The goal was Young's fourth this season as he gave EOU an early 1-0 lead in just the eighth minute. Junior Alex Gutierrez picked up a secondary assist on the goal.

The Owls answered back just before half time, when Trinidad Flores took advantage of a loose ball inside the six-yard box, leveling the game at 1-1. The goal setup for an intense second half that

Senior Aiden Wright led the way on the back end in the second half, making two crucial saves to keep the Mounties tied until Solorio's game-winner. Solorio and Young paced the team with four shots each.

On the Owls' side, Flores had eight shots with four on frame. Skewes made two saves in goal for OIT.

EOU returns to Community Stadium on Thursday at 4:30 PM where they will face the Yotes from College of Idaho.
