Freshmen Lead EOU in 4-0 Decisive Road Win Over Carroll

HELENA, Mont. – The Eastern Oregon men's soccer team completed an undefeated road trip in Montana with a 4-0 shutout of Carroll College on Sunday in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

The Mountaineers' (4-1-1, 2-0-0 CCC) four goals all came from freshmen in the match. The team opened quickly, using their speed to score a goal in the fourth minute on a header by freshman Connor Young. Young would lead the Mountaineers with five shots and tack on a second goal in the second half.

Friday's overtime hero, freshman Michael Ebel, netted his second career goal in the 23rd minute to give the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead.

Despite the 2-0 deficit, Carroll outshot EOU in the first half 9-6, with six shots on goal. The Mounties put on more pressure in the second half, owning an 11-6 advantage in shots for a 17-15 lead in the match.

Just nine minutes into the second half, another freshman in Crisitian Miramontes tallied his first career collegiate goal to give EOU a 3-0 lead. Later, in the 75th minute, Young buried his second goal of the match to seal the game for EOU 4-0.

Senior goalkeeper Aidan Wright was busy all game, making nine saves over 78 minutes of action. Antonio Gracia came in relief and made one save in the final 12 minutes to close out the combined shutout.

The Mountaineers are next at home for the first time in conference play this season, hosting Southern Oregon on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Community Stadium. They then host Oregon Tech on Sunday at 11 a.m.
