EOU Bats Stifled in Losses at Oregon Tech

MEDFORD, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon softball team was held in check offensively by the Oregon Tech pitchers as the Mountaineers fell 4-1 in game one and 4-0 in game two on Saturday in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

GAME 1 | Oregon Tech 4, Eastern Oregon 1
Saturday's opener began as a pitchers' duel as EOU's Hailey Kline and Oregon Tech's Kelly Scott went toe-to-toe with each other. The Owls got on the board first in the third inning with an RBI single and sacrifice fly.

The Mountaineers (4-8, 1-2 CCC) cut into the deficit in the sixth inning as senior second baseman/outfielder Maryssa Santi drove in senior shortstop/catcher Lena Richards with an RBI double.

OIT answered in the bottom half of the frame, however, recording two more runs on a home run to extend their lead to three. The Mounties were unable to score in the seventh, falling 4-1.

Kline pitched another complete game in the loss, allowing four runs over six innings. OIT's Scott also threw a complete game, allowing just one run through seven innings.

GAME 2 | Oregon Tech 4, Eastern Oregon 0
The final game of the four-game series was not a CCC counter, as the Owls took the two of the first three games. Oregon Tech's Sarah Abramson stepped into the circle and was dealing against the Mountaineers. Abramson held the EOU offense to just one hit in a complete-game shutout.

Junior first baseman Shevan DeFreitas broke up the no-hit bid by Abramson with a one-out single in the top of the seventh inning. Down 4-0, the Mountaineers had the bases loaded, but were unable to score any runs.

For the Blue and Gold, sophomore Ashton Kazmierski pitched 3.2 innings in the start while junior Lauren Spencer finished the final 2.1 innings in relief with three strikeouts.

The Mountaineers next face Northwest Christian for the team's home opener. Due to poor conditions in La Grande, the four-game series will be played on the campus of Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon.
