Softball Defeats College of Idaho in the Double-Header to Extend Winning Streak to 8 Games

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon softball team faced College of Idaho in La Grande, Oregon, for their home opener. Mountaineers defeated their opponent in both games and extended their winning streak to eight games.
 
GAME 1 | Eastern Oregon 5, College of Idaho 0
 
The Blue and Gold (12-8, 8-2 CCC) extended their winning streak to seven games with their first win of the day, taking down the College of Idaho (13-11, 4-7 CCC) Yotes five to nothing. The game started slow, as neither team could score in the first inning. Junior first baseman Shevan DeFreitas was the first player score, as she homered to right field and give the Mounties a two point lead, senior third baseman Chelsea Spanier also scored in the same play.
 
Senior second baseman/outfielder Maryssa Santi crushed a homer to left field to increase the lead to three in the third. Chelsea Spanier scored again in the sixth with a 2 RBI homer, as junior outfielder Rayne Spencer also got to the home plate.
 
GAME 2 | Eastern Oregon 10, College of Idaho 7
 
The Mountaineers came back from a seven-to-two deficit to defeat the College of Idaho Yotes in the second game of the day. The Yotes grabbed a five-to-nothing lead in the second, leaving the Mountaineers in a tough spot. But the Mounties did not give up, getting their first point in the game in the second inning from Chelsea Spanier, as sophomore designated player Tayler Finch singled to right field. Junior catcher Brandi Bowling scored in the third to cut the lead to four.
 
The Mounties increased the intensity in the fifth, scoring six runs to get the lead for the first time in the game. The Mounties managed to increase their lead in the sixth and win the game 10-7.
 
The Mountaineers will try to extend their winning streak, as these two teams will face again on Sunday at 11 a.m and 1 p.m. in La Grande, Oregon.
