Mounties Defeat Oregon Tech 77-65 to Move to Conference Final

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The No. 6 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team beat Oregon Tech 77-65 to extend its winning streak to 23 games in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Semifinal round on Friday night at Quinn Coliseum.

The victory advances the Mountaineers (29-2, 20-0 CCC) to the CCC Finals against rival Southern Oregon. The game will be played on Monday at 7 p.m. in Quinn Coliseum and will be aired live regionally on ROOT SPORTS.

Senior forward Stormee Van Belle led the Blue and Gold with 21 points, seven rebounds and four steals, providing crucial points in the paint, as the Mounties' three-point shots were not falling. Last week's conference player of the week, senior forward Mariah Swanson helped her with 17 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Maya Ah You-Dias also scored 17 points, grabbed six rebounds and stole the ball four times.

The Mounties shot a season low 61.8% from the free throw line and 22.2% from behind the arc, but managed to get the win by keeping their opponent to a low percentage shooting with 37.7% from the field and 22.2% from behind the arc. The Mounties' aggressive defensive mindset also resulted in 12 steals.

It was a close game from the start until the end, as both teams had multiple runs and kept the deficit tight, despite their low shooting percentages. The biggest lead in the game for EOU was twelve while the biggest lead for the Lady Owls was seven.

Nohea Waiwaiole was the top scorer for Oregon Tech with 18 points and nine rebounds. Megan Morris scored 14 and Mikaela Shumaker scored 12.
