CHENEY, Wash. – The No. 7 EOU women's basketball team met up with a tough opponent Wednesday night in an exhibition contest, falling 66-45 to NCAA Division I's Eastern Washington on the road.

Senior guard Maren Herrud had her best night of the young season, dropping a game-high 21 points on 7-for-14 shooting. Herrud was 3-for-3 in the first half from behind the arc as EOU only trailed 32-26 after 20 minutes.

The Mountaineers had their best quarter in the second, outscoring the Eagles 15-8 in the stanza. After getting outscored 24-11 in the first quarter, the Mounties rallied and jumped on the Eagles with strong outside shooting, led by Herrud.

Eastern Washington regained control of momentum in the third quarter, scoring 21 points.

Freshman forward Beverly Slater led all players with nine rebounds, adding five points. Senior guard Khadija Neumeyer had four rebounds and three assists.

Defensively, EOU did a good job of holding down the Eagles for most of the game, winning the board battle 37-34. EWU shot 38.5 percent from the field and was just 8-for-32 from behind the arc. The Eagles biggest strength of the night was forcing 31 EOU turnovers, turning them into 25 points.
