Hot Start Leads Men's Soccer Over Warner Pacific 4-2

PORTLAND, Ore. – Three first half goals set the tone for the Eastern Oregon men's soccer team, defeating Warner Pacific 4-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Carlos Solorio, senior Abraham Garcia and junior Oscar Munoz got the Mountaineer (7-3-4, 5-2-3 CCC) offense going in the first half, putting EOU up 3-0 after 45 minutes.

Solorio tallied the game's opening goal in the 17th minute, tapping the ball past the downed Knights (5-8-1, 3-5-1 CCC) keeper. Garcia added his own tap in goal less than 10 minutes later in the 26th minute, assisted by freshman Connor Young. Garcia picked up an assist on the third goal as he took a corner kick in the 32nd minute that was headed in by Munoz.

The Mountaineers were on their heels in the second half as the Knights attempted a comeback. Warner Pacific outshot EOU 8-2 in the final 45 minutes and cut the deficit to two goals in the 68th minute on a goal by Omar Alcazar.

However, the Mounties responded in the 74th minute to ice the game as Solorio picked up his second of the match and team-best eighth of the season on a penalty kick.

The Knights' Kyle Cook scored with 21 seconds left on the clock, but it was too little too late as EOU took the game by a 4-2 score.

WPU led the match 12-11 in shots, but had just six on net. Solorio paced all players with six shots, including five on goal. Goalkeeper Aidan Wright made four saves in the victory.

The Mountaineers return to La Grande for Homecoming, hosting Corban on Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. followed by Northwest Christian on Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. Sunday's game will be Senior Day for the team as they will honor their senior class for one of their final games played at home.
