May Scores 29 as Mountaineers Knock Off Evergreen 88-79

OLYMPIA, Wash. –  Led by a standout performance from freshman Jordan May, the Eastern Oregon men's basketball team won its third-straight game on Friday night, defeating The Evergreen State College 88-79 on the road in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

May had his second highest offensive putout of his young career, pacing the Mountaineers (13-3, 5-3 CCC) with 29 points. The freshman shot 11-for-15 from the field and 5-for-7 from behind the arc.

The Blue and Gold took the lead with 18:32 left in the first half on a May jumper, and never looked back as they held the advantage for the rest of the game. The Geoducks (2-14, 1-6 CCC) did not go down without a fight, however. After the Mounties went up 20-11, Evergreen cut their deficit to one point 22-21 with 4:37 left in the half. EOU then finished the half on a 20-7 run over the final four and a half minutes to take a 42-28 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the two teams played fairly even, with the Mounties extending their lead to as many as 17 points, while the Geoducks pulled to within four points.

The Mountaineers shot a consistent 53 percent for the game, shooting over 50 percent in each half. They forced 16 Geoduck turnovers while limiting their own mistakes to just eight turnovers.

Senior guard Cole Ashby had a strong game with 15 points, shooting 6-for-9 from the field. Austin Winegar and Max McCullough each had 11 points, Peter Hamilton finished with 10 points and Blake O'Donnell scored eight. Junior forward Peter Eke led the team with nine rebounds and three steals off the bench.

Pat Ling was difficult to stop for the Mountaineers as the Geoduck scored 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting with eight assists. Evergreen shot 56 percent from the field including over 64 percent in the second half.

The Mountaineers take their three-game winning streak on the road at Northwest on Saturday. Tip off from Kirkland, Washington is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
