No. 11 EOU Volleyball Falls to Oregon Tech in Straight Sets

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – It was tough sledding Saturday night at Danny Miles Court for the 11th-ranked Mountaineers, as the squad was downed in three sets (29-31, 22-25, 24-26) by the Owls of Oregon Tech.

The loss Saturday night marked for the first time since Nov. 14, 2015 that the Mountaineers were swept by another CCC opponent (C of I in CCC Tournament), snapping a 23-game streak.

On offense for the Blue and Gold, seniors Madisen Garlie and Amanda Miller led the way with 10 kills apiece. Right behind them was sophomore Megan Bunn with nine.

Freshman Kiley McMurtrey added 25 digs, while freshman Madison Pilon recorded a game-high 22 assists.

After the Owls raced out to an 18-13 lead in the first set, EOU went on a tear, scoring the next eight of nine points to lead 20-19. With set point looming, a kill from Garlie kept the set alive for the Mountaineers as both teams battled past the 29-point mark but ultimately, the home side squeaked away wining the set, 31-29.

EOU was in strong command of the second set, carrying an 18-10 advantage until OIT rattled off the next 10-of-12 points, to jump back in front (20-19). The Mounties would bring it back within one (22-23), but consecutive OIT kills ended the set.

In the third set, EOU kept the Owls' margin within three and four points until finally knotting the set at 20. After kills from Bunn and Miller, EOU was one point shy of winning the set (24-23) but the Owls bounced back scoring the next three points for the final victory.

EOU finished with a .156 hitting percentage while OIT capped off the game hitting .219 percent.
