No. 13 EOU Sweeps No. 25 Northwest for 4th Straight Win

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The No. 13-ranked Eastern Oregon volleyball team swept a tough opponent in No. 25 Northwest   (26-24, 25-14, 25-22) on the road Saturday night.

The Mountaineers (11-4, 5-1 CCC) won their fourth straight match with their third sweep in that span as they defeated a tough opponent in Northwest. The Blue and Gold used a strong defensive game plan to limit the host Eagles to a .098 hitting percentage for the match.

EOU led the dig totals 72-60 as the Mounties had three players in double digits individually. Freshman libero Kiley McMurtrey paced the team with 17 digs, followed by senior Malia Mills with 14 and freshman Aspen Christiansen with 10.

In the opening set, the Mountaineers looked to be in trouble of falling behind 1-0 as the Eagles had set point up 24-21. After a timeout by head coach Kaki McLean Morehead, the Mounties rattled off five-straight points to grab the opening set 26-24.

From that point on, the Blue and Gold found their rhythm, cruising to a 25-14 victory in set two and grabbing a 25-22 victory in set three to close out the sweep.

Freshman setter Madison Pilon, who played against her older sister Morgan of Northwest for the first time in her collegiate career, posted a career-high 34 assists along with nine digs in the victory. Fellow freshman setter Abby Smith finished with her own career high of 14 assists.

Senior outside hitter Amanda Miller led the offense with 15 kills while sophomores Hailee Ackerman and Megan Bunn each posted 10 kills. Bunn also paced the defense with six block assists while senior middle hitter Madisen Garlie added five.

The Mountaineers return home on Sept. 22 to face Northwest Christian at 7 p.m. The following night, EOU hosts No. 15-ranked Corban at 5 p.m.
