No. 11 Mountaineers Face Tough Challenge at Big Sky Invitational

LA GRANDE, Ore. – With two more ranked opponents on the schedule, the Eastern Oregon volleyball team will play in another competitive tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Big Sky Invitational in Butte, Montana.
 
The Mountaineers (2-3) open the tournament Friday morning against Rocky Mountain (2-2) at 11 a.m. Mountain Time. Then in the nightcap, EOU takes on the host school, No. 14 Montana Tech (3-1) at 7 p.m. MT.
 
On Saturday, the Blue and Gold face Montana State-Northern (2-2) at 11 a.m. MT, and complete tournament play against No. 10 Grand View (2-1) at 3 p.m. MT.
 
Eastern Oregon opened the season last week at the HIU/Vanguard Summer Slam where they finished 2-3. The Mounties defeated Trinity Christian and The Master's, but fell to tough opponents in No. 2 Dordt, No. 16 Cornerstone and host Hope International.
 
Senior Amanda Miller led EOU with 50 kills last weekend, followed by sophomore Hailee Ackerman with 48 kills and sophomore Megan Bunn with 47. Bunn set a new career high with 15 kills against Trinity Christian, while Ackerman also posted a new high with 11 kills against The Master's.
 
Freshman Madison Pilon stepped in as one of the primary setters, leading the team with 108 assists and eight service aces in the five matches.
 
The Big Sky Invitational will complete the Mountaineers' non-conference schedule as they begin Cascade Collegiate Conference action on Sept. 1 against Southern Oregon.
