EOU Softball Drops Two to No. 15 Corban

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The EOU softball team was not able to contain the high-powered Warriors' offense who exploded for 16 runs on 26 hits Friday afternoon, at Peggy Anderson Field.

Senior catcher Alex Shuster and junior shortstop Lena Richards both tallied two hits apiece in game one, but Corban jumped on the board first with a two-run blast in the first and never looked back, taking game one, 9-2.

In game two, a couple of roundtrippers from Corban gave the visiting side a 5-0 lead after three innings. Senior first baseman Cheyenne Barker would connect on her 11th homer of the season in the sixth frame, but it was far too late as the Mountaineers dropped game two, 7-2.

GAME ONE – EOU 2, CU 9
In the top of the first, Corban collected two runs off a homer from Jessie Isham to take a 2-0 lead. After plating one more across in the third, the Warriors pushed the margin to 6-0 one inning later, turning five hits into three runs.

Junior third baseman Chelsea Spanier doubled in the fourth and was brought in with a Shuster base hit. The following inning, Richards hit a triple with one out putting Barker in position for the RBI single. But the red-hot bats of Corban continued its damage in the sixth, collecting three runs on three hits en route to a 9-2 triumph.

Senior pitcher Haylie Van Laethem (7-9) tossed three and a third innings, allowing six runs on eight hits.

Sabrina Boyd (17-2) went the distance for Corban conceding two runs on nine hits.

GAME TWO – EOU 2, CU 7
Picking up where they left off, the offense for the Warriors kept rolling, leading 2-0 after one frame. After a two-run blast from Raimee Sluder – one of two homers on the day – in the second, Corban's Sam Woodley's solo blast to left gave the visiting side a 5-0 margin after three frames.

Junior pitcher Hailey Kline exited the circle after four innings conceding five runs while scattering 11 hits.

In the bottom half, Spanier mustered a two-out walk and came across the plate three batters later courtesy of a single off the bat of junior left fielder Kasidee Lemberger.

Sluder led off the fifth with a solo homerun, although Barker would answer with a roundtripper of her own in the sixth, the Warriors closed it out in the seventh for the sweep.
