No. 17 EOU Women’s Hoops Scores 107, Cruises Past Walla Walla in 62-Point Win

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The 17th-ranked EOU women's basketball team raced out to a 27-8 start and was never remotely threatened as the Mounties rolled past Walla Walla, 107-45, Sunday afternoon at Quinn Coliseum.

Junior guards Jessica Sexson and Maya Ah You (Dias) scored 15 points apiece to lead six Mountaineers in double-digits. Senior forward Ashley Knight tallied 12 points with five boards. Junior guard Khadija Neumeyer and junior forward Mariah Swanson netted 11 points apiece and freshman forward Kate Hogan chipped in 10 points with seven rebounds.

Walla Walla was led by Alyssa Blankenship with 14 points and five assists.

The first period was highlighted by Ah You (Dias) who scored 10 points for EOU (25-4, 18-2 CCC) in a two-minute stretch as she only played eight minutes the entire game. Knight was right behind Ah You (Dias) tallying eight in the period to give the Blue and Gold a 27-8 lead after one.

From there, EOU never led by fewer than 19, held a 35-point halftime edge, 53-18, and eclipsed the century mark for the second time this season. The triumph over Walla Walla (2-24, 0-20 CC) gave EOU its 10th consecutive win and a perfect home record this season (11-0).

As a result of EOU and Southern Oregon winning each of its games today, both teams will share the CCC regular season title at 18-2. A coin toss after the game, conducted by CCC commissioner Robert Cashell, gave the Mountaineers the automatic qualifier to the NAIA National Championships and the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.
