Red Hot Shooting Leads No. 8 EOU to Dominant 81-68 Win Over No. 12 SOU

ASHLAND, Ore. –Maya Ah You-Dias recorded her first career triple-double and Maren Herrud scored a career-high 26 points to lead the No. 8 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team to an 81-68 victory over rival No. 12-ranked Southern Oregon in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener on Saturday night.

Ah You-Dias became the first Mountaineer to record a triple-double since Maloree Moss accomplished the feat on Dec. 30, 2015 against Northwest. The junior finished with career-highs of 15 rebounds and 12 assists, while adding 12 points.

"It's always great to pick up an early road win, especially against a tough SOU team on their home floor," said head coach Anji Weissenfluh. "Tonight was a complete team effort. Everyone contributed on both ends of the floor and on the boards."

As a team, the Mountaineers (7-2, 1-0 CCC) shot an incredible 55.4 percent from the field on 31-of-56 shooting. Herrud led the way as the junior transfer out of Southern Utah shot 11-for-15 from the field.

"Maren really stepped up and hit shots at the high post and Maya had a huge triple-double," said Weissenfluh. "I am proud of how tough we played tonight in an extremely physical game."

The Mounties showed their depth with five players in double-digit scoring as senior forward Stormee Van Belle scored 16, senior guard Jessica Sexson had 11 and senior forward Mariah Swanson added 10 to go along with Herrud's 26 and Ah You-Dias' 12.

The Blue and Gold never trailed in the contest, leading for 39 minutes and 19 seconds of play. The final 13-point victory does not show the Mounties' dominance in the win as they led by as many as 30 points early in the fourth quarter. The Raiders (7-1, 0-1 CCC) were held to 32.4 percent shooting and were limited to 9-for-39 in the first half.

EOU got off to a great start in the game, scoring the first six points before finishing the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 22-11 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Mounties had another dominant quarter in the second, outscoring SOU 21-14 as they took a 43-25 lead into halftime.

Nothing changed in the third quarter as the Mounties once again scored 20 points and led 65-37 through 30 minutes of play. A late run by Southern Oregon in the fourth quarter cut their deficit to 13 points, but the game was already well in hand for the No. 8 Mountaineers.

EOU finished with a 44-32 advantage in rebounds, with 37 on the defensive glass. Despite 20 turnovers, the Mounties were able to hold SOU under 30 percent shooting through three quarters.

Senior guard Reece Bauer finished with nine assists and five rebounds, while fellow senior guard Payton Parrish had six boards.

On the Raiders' side, Remi Mejia had 18 points and three steals. Syd'Nee Fryer added nine points for SOU.

The Mountaineers stay on the road, visiting Oregon Tech (RV) on Sunday in Klamath Falls, Oregon at 4 p.m.
