(RV) Mounties Begin NAIA Championships Saturday at No. 9 Westmont

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon women's soccer team begins its run for a national title on Saturday at 1 p.m., visiting No. 9 Westmont in Santa Barbara, California.

EASTERN OREGON
The Mountaineers (13-3-2) are making their second trip in program history in the NAIA Women's Soccer Championship, with both coming in the last three seasons. In 2015, EOU hosted No. 13 Biola, but fell 1-0 in the opening round.

The Blue and Gold enter the tournament on a five-game winning streak, with all five by shutout. The Mountaineers won their first Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season and tournament titles in program history this year, earning the conference's first automatic-bid to the national tournament.

WESTMONT
Westmont is making its 20th appearance in the national tournament and seventh straight. They enter Saturday's contest with a 14-3-2 record, placing second in the Golden State Athletic Conference and as the runner-ups in the GSAC Championship.

THE MATCHUP
EOU and Westmont have never played each other, but have met two common opponents in 2017 in No. 5 Vanguard and Hope International. The Mounties defeated Vanguard 1-0 in the season opener while Westmont fell 1-0 to the Lions and tied them 1-1 in the GSAC tournament before falling in penalty kicks. EOU lost 1-0 to Hope International on the road and the Warriors took down HIC 3-1.
