No. 7 Mounties Hold Off LCS Comeback Attempt to Advance to 4-0

LEWISTON, Idaho. – The No. 7 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team used a stingy defensive effort to hold off a comeback attempt by Lewis-Clark State, defeating the Warriors 54-49 on Friday night at the Twin Rivers Classic.

The Mountaineers (4-0) limited Lewis-Clark State (3-1) to 32.2 percent shooting (19-for-59) from the field and just 16 percent (4-for-25) from behind the arc to hold the Warriors to their lowest scoring output of the season.

The Blue and Gold were also held to a season low points with 54, shooting 31.82 percent (21-for-66) from the floor. However, EOU also shot 30.3 percent from long range (10-for-33), thanks to five made three-pointers by senior guard Payton Parrish.

Parrish led the offense with 15 points, with all her points coming off treys. Senior forward Stormee Van Belle nearly had another double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Senior forward Mariah Swanson added 10 points and seven rebounds while senior guard Reece Bauer added eight assists, six boards and three points. Despite a season-low two points, junior guard Maya Ah You-Dias helped out elsewhere with 10 rebounds and three assists.

The Mountaineers got off to a fast start in the game, breaking out an 18-7 lead after the first quarter. The Warriors answered back with a 15-9 advantage in the second quarter to cut EOU's lead to 27-22 at halftime.

In the final 20 minutes, the Mounties played to an even 27-27 to hang onto their five-point lead. EOU had just two attempts from the free-throw line, knocking both down. The Warriors went 7-for-10 from the charity stripe.

The Blue and Gold complete the Twin Rivers Classic on Saturday, facing Montana Tech at 1 p.m. They'll be back home for the first time in the regular season on Wednesday, hosting Whitman at 5:30 p.m.
