(RV) EOU Women’s Soccer Wins 6th Straight, Blanks OIT, 2-0

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.Behind a couple of second-half goals from junior midfielder Taylor Boyer and sophomore forward Nan Kiebert, the EOU women's soccer team (7-2-1, 6-0 CCC) capped off its long road trip shutting out Oregon Tech (6-4-1, 4-1-1 CCC) 2-0, Saturday afternoon at the Oregon Tech Soccer Field.

"The ladies came out and played a great first half of soccer, although we had a few chances, we stayed patient," said head coach Jacob Plocher. "In the second period we created more opportunities and were able to finish. This team is special, we truly play a team game and it's fun to watch. It's a great day to be a Mountie."

EOU tried to find its rhythm in the first half but the chances were minimal. Through the first 35 minutes, the offense recorded four shots, with just one coming on frame. In the closing five minutes, sophomore keeper Cydni Cottrell corralled her first save as both teams eventually headed scoreless into the intermission.

EOU held a 4-1 shot advantage, while the Owls edged out the Mounites 2-1 in corners.

In the early five stages of the second stanza, both keepers were forced to come up with a save each. The Mountie offense kept pushing numbers and the patience finally paid off in the 70th minute. Inside the box, Kiebert launched a shot to the near post, finding the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. It was Kiebert's second goal of the season.

Two minutes after her goal, the sophomore nearly had a brace, but her header shot veered wide right. Looking to add an insurance goal, Boyer did just that, in the 80th minute, rifling a shot from distance over the keeper's head – her third goal in two days – giving EOU the 2-0 edge.

In the 85th minute, Cottrell recorded her third save of the period, finishing with a total of four en route to her seventh clean sheet of the 2017 campaign.

EOU dominated the shots category 13-5, and by the end of the match, edged OIT 4-2 in corners.

Kiebert and junior midfielder Natalie Mitchell launched three shots apiece.
