Mitchell, Boyer Lead EOU to 5th-Straight CCC Victory

ASHLAND, Ore. – With two goals each by junior midfielders Natalie Mitchell and Taylor Boyer, the Eastern Oregon women's soccer team won its fifth-straight match in a 4-0 shutout of Southern Oregon, advancing to 5-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action on Friday.

"The ladies played a great team game," said head coach Jacob Plocher. "We played a very strong first half. The second half it took us a little time to get going, but we were able to kick it into gear. We have a short turnaround, but have another big game tomorrow against Oregon Tech."

The Mountaineers (6-2-1, 5-0 CCC), who are receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Top-25 Poll, asserted themselves early in the match as Mitchell tallied her fifth goal of the season and fourth goal in conference play off a cross by Boyer in just the eighth minute.

Later in the half, Boyer netted her first career goal as a Mountie in the 33rd minute, zipping through two defenders before easily chipping the ball past the SOU goalkeeper. Freshman forward Camie Edgington drew the assist as EOU took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

It didn't take long for the Mounties to add to their lead in the second half as Boyer found the back of the net once again. The University of Oregon transfer found herself with some space, arcing a 28-yard shot into the top-right corner of the net.

Less than two minutes later, Mitchell was at it again with her sixth of the season, lofting the ball in from the right side and about 25-yards out, finding the inside of the left post. Junior defender Chelsey Nicol picked up the assist as EOU cruised to the 4-0 victory.

The Mounties and Raiders finished even with 12 shots apiece, but EOU had a strong advantage of 8-3 in shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Cydni Cottrell posted her fourth shutout of the year with three saves.

The Blue and Gold tallied the most goals by any Southern Oregon opponent in Ashland since 2007.

The victory keeps EOU at the top of the CCC standings with 15 points. They next face a tough matchup against second place Oregon Tech (6-4, 4-1 CCC) on Saturday at 12 p.m. in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
