No. 11 Mountaineers Sweep Northwest Christian in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 11 Eastern Oregon volleyball team rebounded on Saturday evening after a tough five-set loss with a sweep of Northwest Christian (25-18, 25-23, 25-21) in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
 
The Mounties (20-7, 14-4 CCC), having already clinched a spot in the CCC Championships, kept themselves in the hunt for a fourth-straight conference title with the victory on Saturday. They trail Corban by just one game in the standings.
 
The Blue and Gold used a strong defensive effort to secure the sweep over the Beacons (15-8, 10-8 CCC), holding NCU to a .118 hitting percentage for the match.
 
After a strong set one victory 25-18, the Mountaineers looked in danger of losing set two to the Beacons, trailing 21-12. EOU then answered with an incredible 13 of 15 points that included the final eight points to stun Northwest Christian 25-23.
 
The Mountaineers battled in a back-and-forth set three with the Beacons with the score tied 19-19. Once again, however, EOU stepped up with six of the final eight points to capture the sweep 25-21.
 
Freshman libero Kiley McMurtrey led a trio of defenders that reached double-digit digs. The freshman finished with 20 while senior Malia Mills recorded 17 and junior Holli Mullins posted 10.
 
Junior setter Sarah Carpenter led EOU with 20 assists, followed by freshman setter Madison Pilon with 11.
 
Senior middle hitter Madisen Garlie and senior outside hitter Amanda Miller each recorded nine kills to lead the Mounties. Garlie posted a .400 hitting percentage, adding three block assists. Sophomore outside hitter Megan Bunn had eight kills, followed by senior right-side hitter Isabelle Statkus with seven.
 
The Blue and Gold finish the regular season next week, visiting the College of Idaho on Thursday before hosting Walla Walla on Saturday for Senior Night at 6:30 p.m.
