CCC Champions! Mounties Win First Title in Program History

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Under first year head coach Jacob Plocher, the Eastern Oregon women's soccer team won its first Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship in program history with a 1-0 shutout of Corban on Saturday afternoon at the EOU Soccer Field.

Before the match, the Mountaineers (10-3-2, 9-1-1 CCC), who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll, celebrated the careers of their five senior leaders: Cassidy Watkins, Yasmin Mookerdum, Anna Roslander, Rosalie Salisbury and Mariana Madrigal.

"I am so proud of the way the ladies battled today," said Plocher. "Our seniors played hard and everyone else played hard for them. This team is truly fun to watch and be around. We will enjoy this one and then get ready for the conference tournament."

It was the seniors who helped lead EOU to its first conference title, as Roslander scored her second goal of the season just before the end of the first half in the 41st minute. Junior defender Chelsey Nicol sent the ball into the box on a free kick and after it bounced around off multiple players, which included two great shots by Salisbury, Roslander was able to find the back of the net.

The goal was all the Mountaineers would need to clinch the title, despite great opportunities to tie the match by the Warriors in the second half.

The Blue and Gold led the shot total 23-17 and shots on goal narrowly 9-8. Sophomore goalkeeper Cydni Cottrell had one of her best matches of the season with eight shots, staring down a few tough shots down the stretch on her way to her ninth shutout of the year.

The win locks up an automatic berth into the 34th Annual NAIA Women's Soccer Championships for EOU, which begin on November 18. Before then, the Mountaineers will be the No. 1-seed in the CCC Championships, with their first match on Nov. 3 against a to-be-determined opponent in Springfield, Oregon.

Sophomore forward Nan Kiebert and junior Taylor Boyer led the team with four shots apiece. Salisbury and Nicole ached tallied three from the defender position.

On the Corban side, Sheyenne Brusven made eight saves in net. Holly Moorman had five shots with three on goal, while Annouscka Kordom had four shots and three on target.

EOU finishes the regular season with a 6-0 record at home, having allowed just three total goals in La Grande. A 7-0 start in conference action had the Mounties of to their best start and after a tough road trip last weekend, the team showed its resilience with two shutouts in the final matches of the regular season.
